Hello
The bottom of the doors on my trusty mk3 golf 5 door are starting rust. You can literally peel the paint off with a big patch of rusty metal stuck to it. I'm not really much of a DIY'er but I'm planning on giving it a go and if it all goes tits up I can always buy a set of doors from the scrappy.
What's the best way of tackling it? Will using some stuff from halfords that turns rust into a usable surface work and how do I ensure I've got rid of all the rust? Am I best applying fibreglass to the metal or is it better to use a small mesh pad to apply the fibreglass onto?
I got a rough idea of what to do....i just don't have a clue how to do it!!

Post up some pics of the affected areas, I have a feeling that your best, and most economical way forward is to locate some good 2nd hand door/s to the same colour code and swap them over
Unless your prep work is top notch, you'll be spending lots of money on repairs that will be short lived...

Attacked the sections today with a screwdriver and wire brush. It's not actually that bad to be honest. I think I might be able to get away with some filler and sanding. If not then I'll get some second hand doors

If your confident its not that bad go for the filler option, but as Thom says make sure you prep well.remove all the rusted metal and then I use a rust inhibitor like ku rust.
