Title: Civic type r .....TURBO
Post by: MS1COYS on 27 September 2012, 23:48

Mugen are working on a 210bhp n/a FN3 Type-R and rumour has it theyre also working a turbo charged 260bhp version. Remap potential of over 300bhp and in a car that weighs 300kg's less than a Gti or R

I think this is Honda's way of not just competing with the Focus ST and Gti, with their new 210bhp FN3. Especially with a vastly improved  0-60mph time of between 'supposedly' 5.9 and 6.1 seconds. But also trying to rival the Golf R and 1 Series M, with the 260bhp TB version. Capable of a 'supposed' 0-60mph time of around 5.3 seconds!

Whoop whoop

Personally I can't wait.

Well let's see. I wouldn't mind a remapped, retuned, 360bhp, 1150kg machine.....would you?

I would rather less power and na for a fun car. Turbos belong on diesels

If the new civic weighs 1150kg I will eat my shoe. Anyway who cares.... its jap and they are crap. A honda will never match the refinement of a BMW of even a VW

I don't see the point in banging a turbo on a v-tec though. Surely a supercharger would be a better option for more torque in the low and medium range, no?

Vtec is gone thats why they're using turbo's

Would they actually use the Vtec on the turbo engine though?

No, they're not using V-Tec no more due to the EU emission regulations this is why its a 2lt turbo, a completely new engine. Otherwise the turbo would only be adding 12bhp to the old engines 198bhp.

Of cause all that report is just speculation Honda haven't even said if they're making a new Type R. The old one went out of production due to emissions.

Pretty much what I said all the first report was speculation. This one now says it will be a 1.6 turbo! So where did you get all the Mugen info from?

The previous link I posted. It did come from a type r forum, I'll try to find the necessaries.

Like you say though merely speculation at this point. But I can't imagine Honda leaving it at a 1.6t. What's the competition then?

I think you're getting confused when reading the first post on that thread.

2013 Honda Civic Type R... turbo?

A new report says the next generation Honda Civic Type R should arrive in 2013 – sporting a turbocharged engine for the first time.

According to Auto Express, this hottest Honda hatch will brandish a Mugen-developed, 210-horsepower, 2.0-liter turbo four. When we last reported on Mugen, their engineers were boring and stroking the 2010 Civic Type R to develop 256 naturally aspirated horsepower.

Temple of VTEC purists can thank strict European emissions regulations for the move to forced induction, and Auto Express says that the Type R will receive a start-stop system to further conserve fuel. Honda fan boys will still have plenty to get excited about: A six-speed manual tranny with a short-throw shifter, track-ready suspension, and a whole complement of aero aids. The UK-based magazine predicts 0-60 times in the low six-second range and a top speed near 150 mph.

The Type R's projected £23,000 price tag (minus the 20% national tax the Brits factor into their new car prices) would make it about a $28,000 car at today's exchange rates. But alas, since it's based on the European five-door Civic, there's virtually no chance we'll be seeing this Type R Civic in the US. For the moment, you'll have to content yourself with checking out the artist's renderings over on Auto Express.

The bit in bold is referring to the OLD model when mugen built a 260bhp NA Vtec motor.

That thread doesnt say they are working on a new 260bhp turbo R and it doesnt say anything about weight

No, they're not using V-Tec

It's VTEC, not V-Tec   :nerd:
