Title: SPARK PLUGS DIRTYING UP......HELP!!!
Post by: Matthew Green on 27 September 2012, 20:07
hi all,

my 2.o 8v v reg 107k is having a problem running properly. The spark plugs are becoming dirty, the car is running rough in idle and its having a loss of power at below 2000rpm. My local garage dont have a clue and when I asked about similar issues on here a few months back, I was advised to clean the tb, which I did with a friend who knows what he is doing. On cleaning tb we noticed some oil which we think came from the breather tube? but cleaning it didn't realy help. only 1 spark plug is sooting up, but it is also wet with oily residue.

thinking maybe the breather oil, or maybe piston rings?? any thoughts?

thanks

I'd start by getting the car scanned to see if any faults come up,

Then get a comp test done,
Do it dry and then wet to see if there is an improvement.
The 2.0 is known for worn piston rings and the above test will give an indicator.

The oil must be getting past the valve stem oil seal.

I had an issue with my mk4 but was 1.4 with one spark plug getting oily but it was the rocker cover gasket, in your case with the rough running sounds like something internal. You can buy yourself a compression tester and get that done yourself.

compression test will not show the valve stem oil seal leaking.I had this happen on my old ford fiesta.
