Title: Where does the ignition coil get power from?
Post by: GOLF-MK3-GTI on 26 September 2012, 21:21
As above, would like to know what powers the ignition coil, I know it's the coil amplifier, but what sends the power into the amplifier, for it to go through the coil?,

is it the ignition switch?

My mk3 don't give out spark, I've tried a few ignition coils, but still no spark,

so I'm thinking if it's ignition switch?

Thanks

its more likely to be the distributor or leads

could also be crank or cam sensors (depends on model) - if the ECU doesn't see engine rotation it won't spark....  If you directly connect the king lead to a plug, does that spark?

Voltmeter?
