Title: Where to go with my new love Mk3 GTi 16v
Post by: Koose on 24 September 2012, 20:50
Hi folks,

Daily drive is a Mk3 ABF 16vv gti? Shes taken over from my 350z as the zed wasnt making sense with 50miles a day at 20mppg.

So.. the golf has got me back into modding.

Its completely stock and so far ive been repairing any issues.

Next step is modding. It need a replacement front spring. SO perhaps some lowering spirngs?

Wheels for performance with a bit of style what wheel and tyre size do you recomend.

Tuning - How tunable is the 16v? What would i need to add another say 30hp?

Chassis, polybushes? Strut braces?

What are your thoughts on these? All advice is as appreciated as a quick blowy after work.

Koose

Get some decent suspension and tyres. Get a panel filter. You won't get much power out of the engine without spending £'s

Throw a lightened flywheel in their will make it feel like you've added 30bhp

Other than that just enjoy it

I'd go with good quality lowered shocks and springs or coilovers if you want adjustability and extra low's but spend good money on them to avoid a bouncy/crashy ride, then replace the various bushes with good quality standard ones as i don't believe the extra expense of polybushes are really worth it, others will disagree.
Personally i'm a big fan of OEM+ and upgrading/replacing with VW parts and better versions of standard fit parts.
