Title: Engine experts please!
Post by: Kus on 23 September 2012, 22:26
Right here we go. Got a 2.0 8v last week it was running sh!te misfiring like mad and pretty much undriveable until it got to around 3000 rpm took it to be repaired the guy said he put new plugs and leads on it,I picked it up it was still doing the samething but not as bad! Then today I was driving in 3rd and it was misfiring really badly i was struggling to get to 35 then it all went silent and started smoking from the engine :/ I turned it off started it again and it was struggling i drove it foot flat down doing about 3mph! It didn't have any power and the revs were very low. I was that pissed off I just left it where it was! I'l get it towed tomorrow.

What is the problem ? I think it's game over for it to be honest.

was it getting hot at all? sounds like its seizing up tbh, if you were running it low on oil it may have had stuck valves causing the misfire and then seized up,  let us know what you find out on recovery.

it would still turn over if the cat had colapsed

whoops just replied thinking it was a different thread, cat could of collapsed but it shouldnt have that much of an affect on the engine sure it would be down on power but not 3mph with your foot planted, it does sound more of a seizing issue tbh

Only a suggestion as I had a zetec that wouldn't go above 25mph (foot to floor) and this was the problem

Mind you thinkin about it I don't think it revved past 3k so I might be wrong..... But it was an easy fix with a long screwdriver and hammer

Spot on mate (I hope) the guy who towed it said he thinks it's that. Find out tomorrow for sure.
It fires up just doesn't go over 5 or 2000 revs

We'l see it's broke down for a reason might of over fulled when It was misfiring because there was White smoke coming from around the manifold
