Title: petrol consumption

My 1986 K-Jet 8 valve gti is gobbeling petrol all of a sudden. Nothing has been changed or altered, and I have noticed it is hard to start (whereas it used to be on the button), I suspect the mixture is far too rich, I have checked the air filter, and thats grand........any suggestions

is the cold start injector staying on ?
or maybe the main injectors need a good clean ?
