Title: If this is right, we could use blowoff valves?!
Post by: Nino on 22 September 2012, 21:58
I sumbled across this tonight while doing alot of research (as you do) Now to my understanding I always thought that Our engines (1.8T's) had to have a Diverter valve? I have been told this many many times by all sorts of people, but Watch this video and it shows they run a mk4 golf turbo (it has been modded) on the standard DV, an uprated DV and then a blow off valve and well... see your selfs... Btw at about 6:20 this video isnt worth watching.

Your views on this would be great, would be interesting to see what the experts think on this and please dont flame me I know there is a topic about this but I felt a new topic needed to be started purely so it wasnt missed, if MODs feel I was wrong, please merge it with the other topic and dont delete I am interested to read peoples views.

Thanks :)

agus can sometimes get away with bovs but they ecu reads the recirc values and adjusts, no recirc readings and your in limp mode

arhh fair enough, thou it be abit strange i suppose while conducting the test it would show fine on the read out (as shown in the video) but over time it would cause problems?

I had a baileys on my aum, and changed it back to the standard one cos i wanted more performance and i got bored with the gay noise  :lipsrsealed:  I could not feel any difference in performance whatsoever.

I ran a DV26 on my AGU thinking there was no difference in performance, swapped back to 007p and can safely say, I will never be putting anything non-recirc on.

Initial period after gear changes are where the difference lies.

I had a baileys on my agu when I got it, loved the sound at first but then got bored, and it never ran right under load, also when I got it re-mapped they said that the atmospheric dv is slowing my car down, changed it for a 0077p and it made the car run a lot better :)

No 1.8T will 'get away' with a blow off valve to atmosphere.  While it might work, the ECU has accounted fuelling for the air going into the engine and removing the air when throttle body is closed, your car will run rich.

My car ran fine with a cheap £32 dv off ebay. I only took it off as the noise sucked, its not right. Im getting a better dumping noise off the 007 dv and my induction kit.
