Title: help needed back fire loud pop from exhaust
Post by: oakgreengolf on 22 September 2012, 20:37
I've basically just removed the rocker cover manifolds and given th :smug:e engine a good degrease. I've changed the seal in the dizzy too. replaced the plugs, dizzy cap and arm. Put in a new lambda sensor (abf engine) went to start it and it made a very loud pop/bang from the exhaust. I've removed the dizzy and this only seems to go on one way so can't be 180 degrees out.  I did do a compression test on the engine so could it be unburnt fuel? Maybe Carbon cleaner down the inlet manifold? Should I try starting it again or am I likely to cause more damage. Any suggestions would be great!!

Cylinder 1 at tdc and arm points to number 1 so all seems good. I'm going to get a gallon of fuel as it seems pretty low just incase.

1) did you check the gap on the new plugs?
2) is the rotor arm and dizzy cap defintly the correct ones? ie does the arm reach the contacts?
3) are you certain you have the lead order on correctly?

Cylinder 1 at tdc and arm points to number 1 so all seems good.
Could the cylinder be at TDC after the exhaust stroke rather than the firing stroke?
