Title: really tappy after warmed up

Hi i have a mk3 golf 1.4, i knkw the engines are tappy anyway but its only ment to be on start up and quietens down after its warm but mine seems to get louder any idea sound like a knocking

The car seems fine tho pulls as good as it should dont burn oil or nothing

Get a long screwdriver or something similar and place it a various points on the engine (bottom/top etc.)
place ear at handle end and listen.
Will give you a better idea where the sound is coming from.

If bottom then source another engine. (scrappy)
If top it should be tappets, but do an oil/filter change first.

What ever it is, it will be cheaper to get a 2.0 8v gti engine  :wink:

£100 for a good one

That will cost a lot more and cheaper to buy a 16v so your car will be scrap
