So on the back of the other thread, my brother had his turbo replaced. VW wanted just shy of £1500. Mechanic got the P/N & saw a turbo for sale brand new matching the P/N on eBay for £300. I imagine the quality wont be the same, but £1200 saving is hard to turn down.
So it gets replaced. Brother picks the car up & takes it for a drive. Mechanic tells him to go for a spin for 10-15mile & don't hammer it. 3k revs or under.
Anyway, instead of the white smoke that was pouring out before it got repaired, it's now black smoke & a fair bit of it.
Not only this, but he's complaining about loss of power - there'll be nothing, but then it'll pick up & he'll be away, and then it'll lose power again.
He says he THINKS this is slowly improving though.
I guess the black smoke coming out is from when it spilled its guts ... but should it STILL be smoking now, 2 days on?
Just checking to see whether all this is normal behaviour.
Mechanic told him if it's still like this on Friday then to go back.

Couple of things, why was the turbo replaced?
All pipes done up and checked for wear?
Actuator adjusted correctly?
It's obviously not boosting therefor chucking more diesel into the cylinders creating the black smoke of unburnt diesel.

Sounds as if the actuator needs setting correctly so it holds boost for longer rather than all at once. Also check all pipes for a boost leak :undecided:

Boost leak by the sounds of it
