Title: Lowering MK4 Golf - GT TDI
Post by: Chris01243 on 17 September 2012, 15:39
Hey

Im sort of new to the whole VW scene.
Went to players yesterday and saw some lovely MK4's lowered.

I have a mk4 golf gt tdi and im thinking of lowering it.
Ive heard that if you lower more then 40mm you have to replace the ARB as it goes over the driveshaft.

Has anyone experienced any problems lowering 40mm on springs? I cant go too low because of my area.
Would i still have to replace the ARB if its only 40mm springs?
And also, has anyone got any pics of a golf lowered 40mm on 16" wheels.
I found some coilovers from JOM for £160, any good?

Any advice and help would be appreciated :D

Springs wont need an ARB change, Not low enough on springs.
JOMs on UKMkivs are £150 delivered from DPM performance, IMO they are great for budget coilovers. Infact il go as far as I actually rate them, Mine have been on for two years with NO issues atall. The ride is good too.

Coilovers are alot better as you can adjust the height to what you want when you want.

Lowering ~40mm on springs or shocks and you shouldn't have too much to worry about.

Thanks for the quick replies.

I might look into coilovers but then i would have to get a new ARB :/
What are good springs to use for under £120?
Any pictures of a golf lowered 40mm on 16" wheels would be awesome too.

You should be able to pick up some 2nd hand springs, eibach/H&R possibly, for under £100. Check the classifieds on this site and other, gaybay will have some for sure if this place doesn't!

If you bought that drive shaft you would be able to go as low as you want with coilies, however, they are not always required.
