Title: your first vw
Post by: vw_golf_nutter on 17 September 2012, 14:04
what was everyones first vw and was is this car that was responsible for your love of vws now?

my first vw was a mk1 golf 1.5GX and I only got it to annoy my then boyfriend because he wasnt old enough to drive but loved them and I had just got my license so thought I would see what all the fuss was about.
I have to say for me it was love at first sight and I really did love that car. I took it to college where everyone else was driving corsas, saxos and fiestas but my little golf in my eyes was the nuts!

Here she is...

Unfortunately the car set on fire :-( dodgy wiring was to blame. It wasnt that bad but as the fire brigade pushed the car onto my driveway for me they scraped it past the gate and unfortunately the whole wheel arch pretty much crumbled off!
I did get the car re-wired but after that it was never the same and it stunk of burning. It was scrapped by the person that bought it off me after the MOT ran out

After that i knew I would always have vws and have gone on to have about 13 mk1 golfs, mk2s, mk3s, polos and a seat cordoba!

My first ever vw was a mk3 tdi, but it was never put on the road so it doesn't count.

This is my first on the road vw, which I bought for £200 for a road rally. GTI 8v. Loved it, and still have it (though it's sat in the yard waiting to be banger raced :D)

Mine was a mk2 1.4 with some nice GTI body kit.
Next was a mk3 1.8 SE which i did up and put full reiger kit on as i was in my 20s lol

Now iv got a mk4 V5 which at the min i drive like a grandad as its thirsty but im a sucker for big engine golfs.

Been looking at mk1s at min want my GF to pass her test so it gives me an excuse to buy her her 1st car which by accident will be a mk1 :D

WhenI passed my test I was driving a bright orange beetle, was  a great little thing! When that inevitably rusted and I didn't have the skills to keep it on the road I bought my first golf, a jade green 1.8 gl and have been watercooled ever since

My first VW was a mk2 golf cl 4+e, was an awesome, retro looking car. It led to me owning a lot of golfs in the following years.

I think it was the mk4 that ended my love affair though haha.  :lipsrsealed:  :undecided:

I have a soft spot for Renault, they have character.

The mk4 was just so bland and boring. It didnt even look like a GTI.

It was a nice enough car, if youre the sort of person that isnt enthusiastic about cars. I kind of have myself to blame though as it was the non turbo model.

My first dub was a mk2 Golf 16v in oak green a friend of mine was selling it n I needed a car n after owning Pug GTI's, GT Turbo's and XR's n allsorts of other hot hatches I thought I'd take it out n see what it was like n I loved it, it wasn't the quickest car I'd driven but at the time everyone was putting jap sytle bumpers n spoilers on everything n I hated all that but thankfully the dub scene never went that way, I'm now on my fifth dub n have never looked back.

my first vw was a mk2/3 polo 86c jobby 94 1.3 i loved it , was so simple to maintain and to mod . sold it on for a 6n 1.4 which didnt have the character of the old polo . so got another 94 polo 1.0L 4 speed . slow as anything but it was so amazing ! , then i got my mk3 golf 1.4 and i loved it to every inch untill i sold it to get a grande punto 1.9tdi . couldnt connect with that so i had my dads xj8 off him . the fuel cost destroyed my bank balance so i came back to a 1.8 mk3 which i love to pieces (:

My 1st VW was this 1.8 GL 4+E I bought from a scrapyard for £75. Drove it straight to an MOT where it passed with NO advisories!!!

Then after I bought an early GTI 8v with a 1.9 TSR lump in it my mate had the gold one (with a lovely mint biscuit interior), went through 3 gearboxes, then scrapped it  little did we know just how sought after that interior would be now!!
Since then I've had alsorts of other dubs, and I'm now on mk2 golf number 10 and 11

My first car back in 1992 was a 900cc Polo in Florida blue, it had been a one owner car from new with only 50k miles on it.

Within 6 months I managed to forget to top up the oil even through lazyness on a Sat night out with my mates and managed to melt the bottom end ragging it to within an inch of its life....lesson learnt :embarrassed:

Still loved it although it took me 16 years to return to the VW marque, and now on my 3rd and loving it

Hi there OMG!!!  I was just looking through goggle images for a GX and put in my old number plate and it came up with your picture of my old golf. I owned this car for a few years. Loved her so much. Is it true she really has been scrapped??.  So sad. When was that exactly. I lived in Margate at the time and used to drive her to Ramsgate and back and forward to college all the time. I'm now trying to buy another one.
It would be great to know who you got her off etc etc.
My email at home is jaybee_barrow@yahoo.co.uk or kenny.barrow@dialaflight.co.uk at work.  It would be great to speak to you.

Cheers

John

My first VW a a mk5 Golf GTTDI. I was a late starter, passed my driving test at 25 so didn't get into the whole car scene at that time. A couple of years after the mk5, I was getting a bit bored in work, so bought a Mk3 8v on a whim for a couple of hundred quid. It had a couple of small problems, so googled them and this site came up!  Been here ever since, and I decided to go to a few meets. Thats where I really PROPERLY first loved a car! Corrado.  It was following me all the way from Plymouth to Exeter, and I just couldn't peel my eyes away from the rear view mirror!
On my second now, this time in VR6 flavour. (First was a 1.8 valver).

then i had a sabbatical for a few years until my new(at the time, wife now) girlfriend bought me a MK5 GT TDI in laser blue, in 2010! Which I absolutely love!!

Now I've bought myself a little project, a MK4 GTi, it's in 1.8 n/a form, and needs a bit of work to bring it back upto a decent standard lol

my first is the gti turbo i got now. like the interior recaros and how it looks but hate everything about the cars handling, when youve had a decent handling car the mk4 feels poor

My first car was CBO 150L a 1300 Beetle that I bought for 150 quid, restored to a fashion whilst using it as my daily. Someone drove into the side of it about a month after I had the paint done.
Since then, I've had two more Beetles, two Bay Window T2 Campers, a Mk2 Polo, Mk3 Golf Colour Concept and then another Beetle.
Just got one of the Campers and the latest Beetle left, both off the road, camper needs some major welding which will be done once I find someone willing to take it on, the Beetle is too far gone and will end up being parted out.
Will start my next car search in the VW section too  :-)

Started off with a mk2 scirocco back in 1992 crashed that, then had mk1 Gti in black, then recently have had several bay windows, and a 69 beetle then bought the mk2 Gti 16v

Shame! That mk2 looks mint aswell..I used to have a couple of mk2s...1.3s, a '86 'C' Golf C 3 door and a '84 'A' Golf CL 5 door, both when I was 17-18, I don't think either made it to,the road under my ownership lol
