Since when I bought my 1.4 mk3 a while back it has 195/55/15 tyres. I've now bought some 7J Porsche teledials and don't know what size tyre I need so there is no error on the speedo. I thought the standard tyre size on a 1.4 is 185/45/14 which means my current tyre size is wrong and making the speedo show too fast.
What's the standard 1.4 mk3 4 stud tyre size and wheel width?
Any help would be greatful!
Cheers,
Pete

When I fitted my 1.6, which had either 13 or 14" as standard, with 15" tyres, I found the speedo became more accurate.
Just go with the standard MK3 size, be it GTI or not.
Check it with a satnav or a speedo app on your phone.

I believe the std 13's had 175/70x13 tyres
I guess 205/50x15 is the best size to fit
Tyre Size Diameter Circumference Difference Speedo Fits Wheel Rim
---------- -------- ------------- ---------- ------ --------------
175/70 R13 576 mm 1810 mm 0.00 % 70.00 5x13 to 6.5x13
185/60 R14 578 mm 1816 mm 0.33 % 70.23 5x14 to 6.5x14 (GL and Driver size)
195/50 R15 576 mm 1810 mm 0.00 % 70.00 5.5x15 to 7x15 (early GTi)
205/50 R15 586 mm 1841 mm 1.71 % 71.20 5.5x15 to 7x15 (later GTi and VR6)

I honestly don't think they were calibrated to 13" wheels In my experience.
