Title: Rusty boot struts
Post by: ajmoir36 on 16 September 2012, 21:27
I have found the first items that rust on my Apr 2010 GTD, the rear boot struts are rusting at the caps in the middle of the strut. (Fortunatly not the body work).  Will take pictures tomorrow in the day light.  Don't all run out to look but I am interested to see if they all do it. I am sure it's a warrenty claim? I can only assume the water runs down and lies in the cap rusting the damper.

i always dry mine off in the door and boot gutters as they really hold water bad

also the VW badge/boot release holds water for days if you dont dry it out. thats a rust hot spot just waiting to happen IMO

vw I bet won't do anything about the struts.
Boot badge I've noticed its a rust trap and problem on the mk5 and the 6 design traps more water. I always find it funny VW copied SEATs design of the badge but made it a problem area by cost cutting and missing off how the SEATs sits in a plastic mounting.

Suprised they changed them guess a good dealer history or getting it under corrosion cover.

They didnt really try and say its not a fault and just replaced them.  I figured in a few more years they would be wrecked.  I am surprised no one else has them like that.
