my rev counter had stopped working cany i just by some second hand clocks anf fit them with out any problems?
-
no pal they will need codeing as part of the immo is in the clocks they will fit and work you just wont be able to start your car you need someone with vag tech ideally to recode them
-
is vag tech the same as vag com? and could i swap over the rev counter from one unit to the other?
-
As I understand it... if say you had a replacement set of clocks with the same mileage and knew the SKC for both the you could use VCDS, for mileage changes and/or SKC retrieval you need VAG Tacho also, for one off use these will be a costly option for you to invest in so best to find someone local who can do it for you?
EDIT: As regards changing the actual tacho instrument if both clusters were same ie VDO or motometer? I guess it could be possible but not sure how involved that would be not had them stripped down to have a look myself.

the clocks are one whole board so no you can't change just the rev counter.
You will need someone to pull the SKC (secret key code) from the new clocks to enable you to code your keys to the new clocks. If you have immo3 you will need the SKC from your clocks as well
-
how will i find the secret key code out for the new clocks? and how ill i know if i have immo3?
-
Also if anyone could talk me through step by step how to fit code clocks and miles be amazing help.
-
what year is your car mate? You will need VAG COM and VAG Tacho to do this
-
2000 my mates only got vag com
-
If we told you where to find the secret key code it wouldn't be a secret anymore
