Title: Feeling underpowered
Post by: Neil gti on 15 September 2012, 19:54
I haven't drove my car much in last few weeks, but the times I've had it out it feels as if it is hardly boosting if at all ? Could it be something as simple as a split boost valve ?
Everything sounds normal and cannot hear any leaks etc, car is now 2 weeks out of warranty
Any ideas peeps

Have you got vcds as you can log actual to requested boost levels.

Failing that the dv valve is simple to remove and is only held in with 3 bolts so easy to remove and check.

Thanks snoops
No haven't got vcds, think I will have to take it in to the local Indy garage for them to have a butchers ?
Have you got a pic of where the dv is located, may whip it off myself and see if it's split, is the rev D the best one for replacement ?

Have a look at my oil leak thread photos of it there.
It's easyish to get to from under the car. Also on that thread it links to many things you may find interesting to check on yours.

After reading through the oil leak thread and looking through the various links, It sounds like the the dv or and the Pcv valve has failed, I will take it into the Indy garage that looks after my car tomorrow and get them to take a look, If they think this is the problem after logging boost levels etc, I will get them to replace both they can't be that expensive ?
Don't fancy doing the DV myself widow maker style in my garage
Will let you know how I get tomorrow if they can fit me in

I have a ramp so guess that makes me a professionals lol
Couple of axle stands for pennies and a cheap 2 tonne jack is all that's needed really for basic stuff.
I'm too tight to pay someone once out of warrenty to fix it

Doc is the Rev D DV the best one to use ? Looks like the standard one hasn't done too bad, stage 2 for about 20k with no issues

i think yours has lasted well, mine went on the rocco at just under 30k when on stage 1 having not long fitted the ITG, i went rev D then but believe there is a new one which is doing the rounds, pain in the a$$ to get to

Not sure how bad mine has split until I see it tomorrow,
I am on 38k now and been stage 2 for about 20k and loads of Trackdays, so as you say don't think it's done too bad

If anybody experiencing power loss with access to a VCDS cable and software, we have a pretty good write-up of how to do this on your own as seen here: http://www.goapr.co.uk/support/datalogging.php

Glad to see everything worked out OP!
