it's probably the Logic 850/950. They were the ones that they fitted the most of i think.

The alarm kept going off on mine but i just turned the sounder off - there should be a key on one of your keyrings that fits the sounder under the bonnet.

But, if you're looking for conformation on the model of the alarm, remove the glovebox - 4 screws i think, and the brainbox should be sitting on top of your fan box somewhere.

have you tried going to a VW garage to see if they know or an alarm specialist?
Ive had 3 mk3's and because of insurance reasons ive always had to find out what they were
cos you never get any documentation about them! they have all been standard mk3's and
have all had apollo alarm/immobilisers on them.

VW UK have in the past used/supplied various makes of alarms that were Dealer Fit only and over the years that I worked at a VW dealership they started off with :

Moss   (Quantum)          :shocked::laugh: :laugh: :laugh:
Cobra *           :lipsrsealed:
Scorpion *      :lipsrsealed:
Logic   :undecided:
and then I think Scorpion again but not sure as I only fitted one to a mk4 Polo and that was back in 2000 :undecided:
*These were often re branded as VW

I believe that the 97 Passat was the first VW to have a factory fit alarm in the UK
From what I remember  I think only the Scorpion was recognized by Thatcham but I maybe wrong on that :undecided:

But obviously quite a lot of people have had alarms fitted by independent alarm specialist  (some of which in my experience has often been pretty shoddily fitted . ie very messy wiring just stuffed under the dash out of sight)

Mine had a factory fit thatcham approved alarm fitted - manufactured by CONLOG (Logic alarm).

Unfortunately I needed replacement key fobs and CONLOG (it transpires) have long since gone bust.  In the end I had the whole system removed and make do with the immobiliser only.  Insurance difference was £10 per year.

If you mention CONLOG to any VW dealer they will go very pale - VW Customer Services were inundated with complaints a few years back because no-one could get spare parts for these alarms - at the time I had mine removed the car was only 3.5 years old, so you can understand why people expected VW to do something.   After a lot of arguing I gave in and had the whole thing removed.  One less thing to go wrong!

My n reg mk3 gti is fiited with a vw alarm as some one has said already they were not fitted at the factory but by the VW dealers.  After much hassle i found out mine was a scorpian 918  .Vw dealers do not know much about which alarms are fitted and could not recode mine  .Normally the brain is located under the passenger footwell  this should be stamped with the make .Scorpian went out of business but the company that took them over recode them you have to send them the box which imbolises the car whilst its away but you can by pass that to start the car if you wish.I sent them mine and they recoded both fobs and replaced the worn fobs with brand new ones  for 32-00 the charge is 27.00 + vat that includes return by courier, mine was back working perfectly in 3 days and a lot cheaper than the 85-00 a fob the monkeys at VW were going to charge .The company can be contacted on 01257 249928.

If  yours is a 918 the fob will have two buttons on it, one opens and closes the car the other one is like a panic button thats sets the alarm off. Also it will have a switch on the side which when flicked up or down sets the motion sensor in the car .One setting the indicators flash twice on car other setting they flash 3 times on closure .Also the fobs have the code MPT 1340 on the rear of them.

Lastly if it keeps going off check if it is the bonnet pin sensor that is tripping it , it was with mine and apparentley it is quite common .I just unscrewed mine and never had any more problems . I managed to locate the instructions for my alarm and if you have got the same alarm email me and i will scan them and send them to you
