As per title new phone to be revailed tomorrow.
Haters, and fanboys; discuss.
-
Contracts been due for a month...see what the Jesus 5 is like and go from there :lipsrsealed:
-
Ill be upgrading  TWICE!!
Will be getting one through work and my own contract is up
-
Reckon it'll be 4G compatible?
-
cant wait until this comes out... been running low on iphone jokes recently
-
Apparently its 4G compatible ;)
Released 6PM tonight.
-
Ivgot a few months left on my contract, but ill buy that out n flog my 4s.
-
Heard on the news they think it's only got a larger screen an 4G.
Apparently iPhone have a classic design just like a Mini or a Beetle they don't really push the boat out like some of the new Android phones which have much better apps.
All I know is I'll stay away from BlackBerry's in future.
-
big bag of Meh then a big  at the spec list looking more like last years Android phones. 'cept maybe a beefy processor and more ram, which to be honest is just an incremental upgrade than revolutionary. We already know what it looks like, if the pics are to believed.
-
Not so interesting, if you search the Apple site for iPhone-5 you get some results, but the links don't exist yet...
but it confirms the name, that's if you didn't think the 5 on the invite didn't already confirm it for you...

-
So far, exactly what we've expected. Lots of catch up features, nothing new per se.
-
I have a feeling that "One last thing" moment is going to be either NFC or wireless charing. which would be nice, for iPhone users.
-
There was such a massive change from the Iphone 3G to the Iphone 4...Expecting big things.
Hope it crashes massively. Just something else for nation of sheep to follow.
-
I am laughing watching this.
I have had my S3 for over 3 months and many of the new features of this new iPhone I already have.
Although he told me "kids look happier in iPhone photos" I better sell my S3 quick and buy a iPhone then.
-
no NFC... disappointing.
-
no NFC... disappointing.
My theory on this is the lack of standards mentioned in my other rant/thread, that and there isn't a lot to use with it at the mo, though Apple could have got it's hardware partners on board. It is disappointing. I predict wireless charging on the new new ipad and wireless chargin/NFC on the iPhone 5S.
-
Meh
Ill just lower my contract to £7.5 p/m and wait for a decent phone to come out...
-
One thing that I love on my phone is the swype keyboard that's built into it. It's so much quicker! This is one thing I'm surprised they haven't cottoned on to yet.
-
How come on the American Apple site it states From $199 and on the UK site its from £529!!!! Rip off Britain :lipsrsealed:
Never got on with Swipe
-
Looks almost exactly the same as the 4S.
-
Ill just lower my contract to £7.5 p/m and wait for a decent phone to come out...
But the Galaxy SIII is already out?
-
Got a SII dont really want a SIII, Ill wait a while
-
Got a SII dont really want a SIII, Ill wait a while
If you're going to wait, wait for a quad core Krait (aka Qualcomm S4 Quad core - not the current dual core S4 range)    Hubba f@cking hubba !
-

Bless. Their prices are prices on a contract, as Apple US allow carriers to sell directly through their site. The UK price is a unlocked phone.
My opinion on the iPhone 5, meh. Really am not impressed. I have a 4 (not 4S) and won't upgrade. I may even consider an alternative and spread my wings.
-
Didnt know that as am no fanboi
-
Even Reuters isn't wowed:
http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/09/12/us-apple-iphone-idUSBRE88A1CP20120912
-
Really dIsappointed to be honest. It doesn't seem to have a main feature, the 4 had retina display then the 4S had Siri. This is kind of a catch up rather than leading the field. It does look good though much better than the competition.
I went on sim only a few months ago so probably stick with my 3 year old 3GS for a while, even though the battery lasts half a day when it's used!
-
lets face it... new larger screen means new apps have to be developed and purchased by users = lots of tasty income for app developers and Apple too
Apple aren't silly you know, keep everyone happy
i'll probably move to Apple TV before I look to upgrade though.

Going to order one, wait for sell out and eBay prices to go crazy, whether that be over chrimbo or not, sell it and buy a new phone, SIII or just an iPhone 5 direct from Apple when in stock and pocket a few hundred.
-
I doubt it will be a sellout Dude the 4S was not a sell out
-
I agree, they don't have Steve Jobs to sell it this time and he was a master at explaining how much you need something you didn't know you needed.

There are a number of errors in that article too, slimmest smartphone in the world eh (http://www.droid-life.com/2012/09/12/dear-apple-the-iphone-5-is-not-the-worlds-thinnest-smartphone/)?
Google and Microsoft don't just R&D tech products they can sell you, they delve into non-tech and biological research too, things that consumers wouldn't see. The evil empire that is Google lets their employees use 20% of their work time to foster their own projects and research - and have many research labs for various things....
Apple didn't invent the touch screen phone in 2007, they made it more appealing than it was.
-
Apple who...
-
bit sh1t really. unless you have an iphone already.... in which case you know no better anyway.
its just slipped a little further behind the competition imo
-
You all say this but it will out sell any other phone in the uk market on a yearly basis
-
You all say this but it will out sell any other phone in the uk market on a yearly basis
Thats because Apple is more appealing to those that do not work or enjoy technology. It's a phone for the masses really. All they care about is getting the 'latest' one out! Become more of a fashion accessory than anything else tbh..
-
You all say this but it will out sell any other phone in the uk market on a yearly basis
Really mystic megadam??
perhaps you could tell us the number of people who will get this phone without even trying it? Then realise there are better phones out there??
Its one for the sheep...
... and whilst you are 'out there' fridays euro numbers please??? feel free to PM me
-
im looking forward to it, not because its the iphone 5, only because the screen on my HTC sensation XL is smashed, bought the iphone 4 when released and got bored, thinking the same things going to happen with the 5 :embarrassed: then android it is again
-
The mistic ball is mine and mine only
Im going on previous cases i.e the iPhone 4. You don't see many people with the S3 now do we. It's cheaply made and you can tell this.
-
i wouldnt say its cheaply made. if it were more solid then we would have to hear how heavy it is. its much slimmer that the iphone, has a larger screen, is cheaper...
I come into contact with around 30-40 customers a day. I got mine the first week it came out and nearly everyone has commented on how good it looks after having a play. Only those that recently splashed out on a 4s were the ones to dismiss it. :lipsrsealed: the other are ready to make the switch
-
You don't see many people with the S3 now do we. It's cheaply made and you can tell this.
Yes, lots. Maybe you need to get out more. Samsung is smashing it out the park at the moment.
More reasons not to buy an old iPhone5 here:

should this just be renamed the 'iPhone 5 hate thread' then all of you who despise the fruit based products can slate to your hearts content?
-
should this just be renamed the 'iPhone 5 hate thread' then all of you who despise the fruit based products can slate to your hearts content?
I think it's simply representative of the overall consumer response to the iPhone 4.75
Let's face it, if Shady's on the turn they're really going wrong!
-
And we all know how Mr. Apple I am!
I have been reading into it more and I just don't get it. Larger screen was needed but I'm not sold on just making it taller. 4G was needed to keep up with other smartphones, but there is nothing special about this iPhone. Especially the fact you have to pay £25 for a bulky adaptor to allow it to work with existing accessories. That's just plain stupid.
I would take one or free, but I'm not selling my 4 and investing an additional £300 odd. I will wait until next year and enjoy what I've got. Which isn't actually all that different to the 5.
-
i think the reason for making it taller was to get 16:9 ratio... which would make it ideal for Air Play mirroring
-
i'm keeping this phone until something revolutionary happens. it does pics, vid, net, apps, video call, voice command, sat nav, it even has the pay with your phone by swiping it thing (iphone doesn't?!?!)
That's the wonderful NFC (Sign my goddamned petition!) oh and don't use it for payments yet, not until it's matured.
i think the reason for making it taller was to get 16:9 ratio... which would make it ideal for Air Play mirroring
So what you're saying is that they're copying Samsung?
Next year Apple with bring out an NFC or wireless charging phone, which will be revolutionary because "It's the first smartphone that can charge wirelessly" or in the case of NFC "It's the first smartphone that has contactless payment" - stocks will go through the roof, we'll all b!tch about it being the worst / coolest iPhone yet, this cycle will continue until something gives. The loop is not infinite, it's finite.

It's great if you want to muck around with turning wifi/BT/3G on/off etc (useful for getting in your car and connecting to the BT handsfree and disabling wifi stopping it sucking up your battery)

that's it.. thread renamed.. off you go boys.. fill your boots

I shall be getting it, £230 to buy contract out, o2 recycle offer me £260 for my 4s.

Yeh toby i love iphones but seems like a waste and your forgetting that the phone wont be free on any tarriff so you will have to pay for the new 1 or take a hoorin tarriff!!!
-
I love my iPhones but ill not be barging through the hordes to get a 5.
I have a little fleet of iPhones all in different renewals so I manage to get them on release but to be honest, this time I won't bother, I've got a 64gb 4S and it works well for me. It's fast enough an does what I ask it to.
So until a 5 plops through my door FOC I'm not fussed!
Wouldn't mind getting one of these S3s everyone's wanking on about, is that the top rival to an iphone?
-
Until next month Jord lol but i agree with you the 5 just isnt wow when you own a 4s!!
-
No prices have been relesed yet, i got my 4s free on a £50 pm contract
-
The american prices have been released and it is more than the 4s was so i wouldnt expect it to be free and Toby £50 assed!! i have like £16 a mth unlimted texts 500 mins 500mb data total cost over £384 Phone might be £550 making it about £934 Your tarriff means you pay 1200 in 2 yrs Assed!
-
Wouldn't mind getting one of these S3s everyone's wanking on about, is that the top rival to an iphone?
The S3 is awesome, the graphics in games is superb! The HTC One X is just as good (if not better now they made it better with an update), but end of next month as Damien said, we'll see a new batch of awesome phone. The Nokia Lumia 920 is looking very very nice.

Well as They Say with windows 8 Apple are pretty much f**ked as they have nothing lined up that compares!! Microsoft Tablets Phones and computers are away to get a new lease of life!! My macbook might be gathering dust shortly as well as my iphone!
-
Im amazed apple are so behind the times in releasing new features to the iphone when it was so revolutionary in the first place.
-
Prices r up 16Gb £529 32gb £599 and 64gb £699!!

paid £400 for my s3 and sold my old BB for £300.... today you can pick up a brand new one for £350!!
-
you've got to be some sort of cvnt to pay £700! for one of these mediocre sheep magnets.
-
http://www.o2.co.uk/mobile/iphone/iphone-5
No news on how much you pay for the handset tho
Free on vodaphone
http://m.vodafone.co.uk/phones_and_plans/iphone/index.htm
-
Depending on contracts on Orange the phone is starting at £109 for a £31ppm contract for the 16gig version
-
Think I'll stick with the s3...was an iPhone person but moved over to the dark side...better experience overall...torque app was a steal aswell...similar apps were a lot more on the app store
-
To get it for free on Voda £47 p/m for a phone that has no real new tech that you find in other phones? I'm paying that for 2 Galaxy S3's which were free, Spec wise they equal the iPhone 5 on some stuff and surpass it many other areas.
No matter which way you slice it, it's not a good deal, even if it were an HTC, Samsung, Nokia or Motorola etc

Can't freakin' wait, just hope I can sell the S3 for a ATIV S or 920
-
Samsung is the way forward.....Had the iPhone 3gs but had enough and got myself a Galaxy Note and im so happy i did. With the internal 1.4ghz processor overclocked to 1.6ghz you have a hand held laptop. Superb in every way.
-
im unsure who to take my contract out with! voda or o2! just waited on hold with 02 (allready with them) there is no loyalty discount! and for £1 a month more i get 1gb extra data with vodaphone! :undecided:
-
Theres only two companies garinteed 4G service with the iPhone 5 and thats the new network eee and O2.
-
bollocks! lol just gone with vodaphone! ill cansel that order then
-

-

Define better R32UK?
-
http://appleinsider.com/articles/12/09/17/purported_iphone_5_benchmark_score_doubles_fastest_idevices_outperforms_androids_best
probably some marketing viral thing from Apple, but if the benchmarking performance of the iphone 5 is true then jesus, that is impressive considering the battery life.
Comments further down suggest you can overclock android phones to similar performance levels.
-
Define better R32UK?
take a std. + improvement = better
the word you need to focus on in my previous post is 'convince'.

I'd take the benchmark scores with a pinch of salt, browsing the results shows a standard GT-i9300 S3 (international version) achieving over 2000, then some over clocked at 1800Mhz not making that score, along with standard & over clocked GT-i9300 not even making 1000...

Q: Ipone or Android ?
A: How vain/scene are you?
Unbiased opinion: I will stick with my laptop and Nokia for doing proper work stuff and get the latest phone when my next upgrade comes with a Tablet so i can look good in Cafe Nero
So can anyone explain this tribal allegiance to either Android or IoS and why it seems so venomous?
Cos some people hate the thought that even though dead Mr Jobs is humping their bumholes so to avoid the shame they say its great, on the otherside Androids are the "PC" version wich is cheeper and has less kudos and therefore like wearing Dunlop green stripe to School when your mates have Puma Magics.
Vanity and the need for sh!te we dont need is part of the human condition
-
So can anyone explain this tribal allegiance to either Android or IoS and why it seems so venomous?
It's what people prefer or dislike, often felt passionately when their choice is dismissed.
I dislike Apple for more technical reasons than most on here would care to understand. I also believe the iPhone in the past few years have been mediocre upgrades, this year more so than ever. Forget that it only has a 4" screen, it doesn't have wireless charging or NFC which are the two hottest bits of tech to have, all the top of the range mobiles have it bar the 6 5 - and from the front it does look like a stretched out 4/4S, which looks silly.
Heyho, I'll be sticking with my plastic POS that's fully kitted out with the latest technology, superb battery life (yes, better than the 5 despite it's larger screen) and a fantastic 720p display. for now at least, until we'll see what the Lumia 920 and Ativ S are like.

It happens when you compare anything; cars, games consoles etc etc
It does seem to border on the ridiculous sometimes though :undecided:

I bought an S2 for me and the 4S for the Girlfriend last year. To be honest there wasn't much in it except iPhone had Siri and the S2 had a much, much better camera!
Apple has been renowned for bringing something new and innovative to the table.. this time it hasn't. Even lots of Apple fans i have been speaking to aren't impressed and have said they will either stick to the 4S or go to the S3.
If anything it's not Droid fanbois saying anything. They are just picking up that Apple have failed by their on standards. It's as simple as that.
-
Getting my upgrade next month. More than happy with the iPhone 3 that I have had for 3 years and the service from Apple is the best customer care I have ever experienced. No quibble is the best policy.
iPhone 5 here I come.

Nokia's got in on the action too

this exactly... you don't head iphone owners going onto competition threads and just slating them.. its very tiresome really.
-
I wouldnt say anyone is being a fanboi... its just difficult to understand why someone would pay more for an inferior product.
Would you pay more for and astra than a golf??
-
Isn't that a matter of opinion again though? I personally wouldn't pay more for an Astra than a Golf but I would pay for a iPhone over a superior phone.
-
Hardly a hate thread.. Apple fanbois don't like the fact they have been knocked off the top perch. Apple have brought nothing with this 'upgrade' compared to what they are capable of. Steve Jobs has gone and they don't have anyone with a clue now. If Jobs was still here something special would have happened.
At the end of the day it's a phone. Apple is at the top, it will get criticised.
-
i need a smart phone with a built in screwdriver tool
once you have lost the screw, a screwdriver is no use
-
Unbiased opinion:
i went from a 3gs to an s2 and couldn't get enough of it, however i'm on my 3rd s2 due to software issues, hardware issues, apps crashing and just generally not working properly. At least the iphone worked properly and the interface is so much nicer to use than androids.
I was impressed at first with android but as time went on I found it just lacked the organisation and fluid motion the iphone has.
As much as i HATE apple, the iphone, although it lacks the spec the s3 has, will still be the more popular phone and to me is a no brainer. Plus the metal back should be a lovely touch.
-
Even though I use iPhone my self, I must say iPhone 5 is same old phone with 0.5" bigger screen and that's it.
Not impressed :lipsrsealed: :lipsrsealed: :lipsrsealed:

I do love Google Navigation, though on the S3 I found the voice pauses like it's thinking about what to say next when it's giving you the last bit of info, where as my Legend there was no noticeable pause while it thought about what the reset of the directions were - maybe the S3 is just quicker at telling me what to do next and hasn't got the rest of the info yet :undecided:
-
Got my 5. Will have a play when i get home! Looks lush!
-
Yip got my iphone at 8 this morning have to say im actually very impressed so far panorama mode on the camera is amazing
-

Fairs well. Drop test.
-
I would be gutted if that was my phone
-
Fared much better than expected and better than other phones (inc S3/4/4S) That's why I love my uni-body aluminium Legend, its taken such a beating and has minor marking. Edge to edge glass has never been a fantastic idea. One thing I'd like to see is identical drops face down / side impacts rather than "random" impacts. and  at the comments in the video

Iphone 5 vs S3 and Rzr android phones in benchmarking tests:

Second article to benchmark the iphone 5, Galaxy S3 and Motorola Razr.
Interesting article.

Just lol.

I'm no techy but it also seems the general system performance is better overall too. Would that mean better gaming as well? Maybe jay can weigh in on how to interpret the geek bench results and what it means in real life situations.
I was going to skip 5 as my 3 year old 3GS is still going strong. What with the drop test video and now 2 benchmarking tests I might consider upgrading
-
Faster than the S3 by all accounts.
-
I'm loving it! And it's durable! As proven by the video
-
I've used mine pretty much all day and it is pretty damn quick. Much quicker than my 4 and that's throughout the range of apps on the phone, as well as the OS in general.
-
That's the dual Core American version, not the quad core international beast. It'll be good to get a benchmark with the quad core S3 and quad core htc one x, as those are the phones we use in the U.K.
I had a play with one in o2 and surprised to see it's almost as tall as the S3, nice and fluid, also full of cards in passbook. American store cards, doesn't help when were in the U.K.

I'm surprised the One X has less bolloxs than the One S more than anything else there.

I'm guessing its the clock speed advancing the score.
-
all i wana do is get my puc code from o2 so i can use the iphone 5 as a phone!!! been on hold to o2 for 2 hrs 8 mins! lol

First impressions are how much lighter it is compared to the 4. Feels like its not even in my hand.
It zips through the menus are a fair pace; typical Apple slickness.
Is it a massive upgrade?? Not in terms of appearance or functionality. For me it just works fine though  plus i should have my 'spare' iPhone sometime this week through work

don't suppose you've had a chance to try out the 4G ness at all on EE? I noticed the other day when I was about that I was getting the EE signal, but obviously not 4G yet as I wasn't in the smoke
-
I'm on EE, i don't think the 4G has kicked off yet though.

We dont get 4G in the Valleys  dont think any talk plans have been launched yet anyway :undecided:
I find the 3G is much improved over the 4 and equally the wireless speeds are much much quicker!

the wife just popped into the Apple store in bluewater and upgraded to the iphone 5. Took 20 minutes to copy over all her data and settings. It seemed like they had plenty of stock too.
-
Had mine since release date thanks to a Vodaphone pre order, i had a 4s before & i think you can notice the difference in speed with the 5.
I like it, it does everything i need at speed :)
