We were burgled earlier this year so I sort of know what it feels like. The police were a complete waste of time with us as well.

Really feel for you chap. You think the only way to have your car pinched these days are if they get the keys.

I don't suppose you had "Find my mac" enable on your laptop? If you did, get on iCloud asap and see if you can track it!

Hope you hear some good news soon.

Really sorry to here about this  I had a car stolen about 15years ago and I can still remember that sickening feeling when you get back to where you parked it and its not there!

Lets hope something has been caught on cctv given this country is one of the most watched nations in the world, especially in london, having said that one: they have to be working, two: of decent quality and three: finding someone willing to look at them!

All the very best.

Jeez Steve that is not good  At times like this I wish vigilantism was legal.

I feel for you - it's truly horrible. Have you checked with the London authorities (sorry I don't know their official name) to see if it was towed due to causing an obstruction or similar?

Are there any CCTV cameras that might have picked something up?

Hope you find it and all is OK - keep us updated and thinking of you

Really sorry to hear this, sorry if this is a silly question but it's not been towed has it?

Rare for such a new car to be stolen in the street in an area as busy as chinatown (presume you mean London). must have taken them an hour to clear the traffic and go one mile.

Without quoting the obvious, you should check the street for all the parking signs etc. As someone said; it wouldn't have been taken by a private firm would it? were you parked over a garage, or entrance etc??
Title: Re: Tiguan Stolen
Post by: Mr_F on 11 September 2012, 15:05
The amount of CCTV footage in that square mile would be able to tell you if it was driven or on the back of a truck having been lifted.

Good luck with the search Steve.

Really sorry to hear about this. The rate of car thefts is, sadly, on the increase.

As others have said, it may have been towed, normally, every vehicle that is towed via police means (obstruction offences) has a "removed" report added to PNC immediately. Most private clamping companies will inform the police when they remove a vehicle.

In London there is an organisation called TRACE.
"This is a free 24-hour call centre which locates cars that have been removed from any London street. They will provide you with the location of the vehicle....why it was removed....and how it may be recovered. TRACE handles nearly 15,000 calls each month and their telephone number is:  0845 206 8602".
The Police do check this every time a stolen report is made, although it can take a little time for the database to be updated.

Was there any pieces of window glass nearby? It is very easy now to take a vehicle without the keys by overriding the OBD port with some easily available electronics. BMWs can be taken in around 10 seconds and VAG cars arn't too far behind.
A pair of fake plates and cars can disappear quite easily.

I hope your car is found if nothing more than to allow the toe rag's nuts to be severed from his body. Hope your insurance get their fingers out and sort things.

All the best,

Detritus.

They found my car today about a mile away from where I parked it, its in a mess at the front both wings damaged but left wing has paint missing with huge dent ,front grill smashed but it drives okay. Its now in the recovery compound for the insurance assessor to give it the once over.

Guess what the sh!tehawks missed the laptop they wouldn't have found it anyway (my little secret compartment)

A massive thank you guys for your support this forum is very special and very dear to my heart

Great News pal, esp about the laptop, have you actually seen the damage yourself? If not are gonna get to see it before the insurance takes it to repair it? Only ask as I'm wondering if you got a pics fella...

Good to hear it been found mate

Great news mate especially since you got your laptop back with no doubt some personal info on it.
The car you can always get rid of but at least the decision has been put back into your hands rather than some scum taking that decision from you.

Hi Steve

Glad they found your car and hope the damage is 'cosmetic' from them moving it rather than it being in a shunt or such. (Also glad your secret hidey hole saved your MBP  :smug:)

Remember, as much as it is gutting when things like this happen, you are just a victim of circumstance and it wasn't personal. Hopefully when you assess the damage you can decide on what is best - repairing and keeping or moving it on - at least you get to decide.

Take care.

Protected no claims is a scam as it is generally only protected with the company you are with. Catch 22. They "naturally" put their price up the following year so you move, only to find the new company doesn't recognise your NCD

That's all well and good, but the should the circumstance force him into paying out for a new car that he otherwise wouldn't have considered?

This has got me worried now!

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-19562487

I'm sure it's possible on all cars, not just BMW! Gonna start looking for a steering lock and a camera for the drive.

Yes, unfortunately these devices are also available for VAG cars as well as BMW.

They do require access to the CAN bus via the OBD connector, so one option is to disconnect the CAN bus from the connector and only reconnect for service or diagnostics.

You could also send 20000 Volts down some of the pins and destroy their hack tool

I know what you're saying.  Personally, I would not want to keep a car that had been stolen let alone damaged aswell.  Chances are it has been thrashed to hell aswell.
I would never feel the same about the car again.

The car is fine its still in A1 condition and there are no markers on it so it would`nt be a problem to move it on.The break in was the think that caused most of the heartache as i`m sure you  can relate to.

Sometimes thieves will leave the car parked elsewhere to see if it is fitted with a tracker.

The issue regarding key reprogramming/cloning via diagnostic port is on Watchdog this evening.
