Title: MOT Tomorrow
Post by: tigerj360 on 10 September 2012, 17:37
Not looking forward to it!

Things I think it will fail on:

Airbag light on
wheel bolt missing, due to old one being sheered off in the hub

Money i have at the moment:

£0

On a serious note can anyone back up my thoughts on thinking the above are failures

Cheers

Airbag light, well without fault code reader difficult but with some luck it is just the plug under the seat! Just disconnect your battery for a few hours, then undo the airbag connector under seat etc and see if there is any corrosion - unplug and plug in a few times. After you've done this reconnect battery and see if the light is still on.

Wheel bolt.... and you're driving like that? I guess it's sheared because of over tightening, suppose you've lubed them and tightened like a gorilla  just in case you have lubed them - NO lube on bolts or the hub!! EVER!!

Try to get it out go to VW buy a new bolt for 2£ and that should be that....

I always dread MOT date, I just check the basics and pray that everything else is ok!

Good luck

The garage should be able to help you with getting the bolt out...Then just replace it. Will probs get charged maybe an hour labour.

As for the light...black tape?  :lipsrsealed:

ONly a failure if the tester doesnt have to remove a wheel trim that covers the bolts.  Otherwise, alloys and he can see the bolt missing its a fail.

Airbag light isnt on the test yet I dont think, more than likely a advisory rather than a fail.

Good news guys went straight through today!

Well happy/lucky and only had two advisories:

Rear passenger door wont open from the inside which i knew about and rear brake discs slightly corroded

Must have not spotted the wheel bolt missing

Check the earths on top of the batery for the sir bag

Will try this later, cheers mate!

Will try this too! The wheel bolt was down to the previous owner not myself, no idea how it happened but am looking into getting it fixed ASAP
