Title: Battery going flat over night.
Post by: thatwillis on 09 September 2012, 15:52
Hi guys.

I've been over in befast for a month or so to come back to find the battery flat in my golf 1.8t AGU. I charged up the battery fitted it and left it over night. 10 hours later the battery was almost compleatly dead. I can't see any lights that have been left on or anything running that shouldnt be. Does anyone have any ideas what might be causing this?

Cheers
Willis

Take it to your local auto electrician to see if the alternator is putting enough amps back into the battery. If it is then it could just be a shagged battery.

Try a new battery? Swap yours with some elses in the household as a trial? At least its a free check before taking it to a garage

Use a voltmeter to check the battery first
second the alternator
failing that one of the two is knackered or you have a ground fault (changed anything recently?)

Check for current drain on the battery, make sure everything is off and you will soon see if you have a problem, I had the same issue years ago and it was the boot light staying on.

Ahh sorry for the late reply I havent had access to the internet. (should be a basic human right)

Good idea about just swaping batterys to see if it still drains or not. How would I go about checking for current drain?
