I'm in 2 minds whether i can continue to share my golf with my girlfriend. Sold her car a few months ago. Have seen a mk4 golf v5 advertised locally. Its advertised as a 20v 170bhp. I don't really know much about these.
How can you tell between the 10v and the 20v? Its got the later monty II alloys and is a 2000 x plate if that makes it either or? Are there any common faults specific to these engines? I know not to touch the 2.0's with a barge pole!
Seems like alot of car for the money with a very good spec. Don't get me wrong i'd rather have a 1.8t or v6 but for under £1000 dn't think you would get anywhere near this v5 for condition mileage etc.

I guess V5,s are good value due to high fuel consumption, do sound nice....

They are ok but they are very thirsty, shop around and get a 1.8t

Yes a mapped 1.8t is thirsty but still better than a V5
Thanks for the Rover abuse

I realise they're far from the most desirable engine, probably due to poor mpg, which doesn't reflect well against their performance/tuneablity.
Don't need a 1.8t to map (although that would be nice) or a tdi, thats what mine is in the the sig (that the missus as taken over).
The criteria of my car search is something cheap to buy for my 2 mile commute, but ideally something that i won't be embarrased to be seen in for under a £1,000. If it was fast/economical/and free it would be ideal! I'm realistic though hence looking at a particular v5 as it ticks most the boxes, i know its been forsale for ages and he can't get a grand for it. This was why i enquired for abit of info on them..... Maybe a rover would be a good idea

Cheers Barry, theyre a bit far away but didn't realise you could get that much car for the money. Could sell the none standard bits to bring the price down - if they were closer! :undecided:
Still kinda got my eyes on this v5- can't understand why! i reckon i can get it for £750-800

dont touch a v5 or a v6 unless you want a car with a drinking habit
