Alrite guys I've just got a pioneer double din head unit for my mk4 and I've put it all in and for some reason every time I turn off then turn back on I lose all the data that I had swapped and settings and stuff is this common or is there something wrong with it cheers for any help

no panic, pop the sterio out the dash again, now there will be a yellow and a red wire somewhere between your aftermarket sterio and the cars o/e wiring loom, swap the red and yellow around so that red goes to yellow and vise versa. plug evrything back in and try again.
This should fix your issue

Cheers buddy will have to give it a go when I go out to it later

Same issue on my mk4, definitely was red/yellow leads, alot of better headunits have it in the headunit ISO so you dont have to do any cutting and connecting just swap the bullet connector section :).

As above bud, it's because the HU main power source is being taken from the ignition +ve and not direct from the battery. As soon as you remove the key power to the unit is lost! Therefore all your settings are gone!
