I'm looking to possibly move from a mk3 to a mk1 later today
http://m.gumtree.com/volkswagen-golf-mk1-convertible-cabrio-clipper/v?adId=110512460
The above is the car in question...anyone know the car?
Any advice on what to look out for?

Bit strange he has changed the roof frame?
Leaving all the hydraulic set up in place.
I would be asking why? If he states that it needed a new hood, then I would think then he has just swapped an old second hand manual one over, it's a common trick rather than putting a brand new top on, they fit old secondhand ones that look better than what they had on before. That's a problem if you don't know how old it is as these don't last forever and are expensive to sort out.
I guess you could put the old power frame back on and get it going fairly straight forward.
However make sure the frame folds and locks down into place.
Open the hood, press on drivers side part of the frame it should click and lock into place, then passenger side.
To release there should be 2 lever knobs that protrude either side of the seat upright, plastic bits.
Press these down and the hood should be able to be put back up.
At a grand it's not bad money. Clippers don't hold the value as the cabby GTI.
Also running issues with the pieburg carb too, a lot of folks swap over to a webber carb.
Cheers

Jamo it's an exceptionally clean car mate...if I could offer Mickey more cash I'd of had it in a heart beat!
It's easily worth the asking price,it's obviously reduced due to no tax and pressure from his misses haha

Car had a few running issues, webber carb was running horribly...cutting out constantly, the choke wasn't working correctly so sorted that, seems fine now
Dunno how long I'll keep it,I do a LOT of miles and it seems a shame to add to the mere 76500 on the clock
