Title: Throttle pedal spring
Post by: jack.pe on 05 September 2012, 14:03
Hi,

The spring on the throttle pedal on my MK2 GTI 8V feels too strong for me, has anyone ever shcnaged to a lighter spring? and if so how do you go about it?
It return just fine so is not binding, just seems too stiff to me, makes the engine feel more lethargic than it actually is.

Dont think so, as I said the return is fine and the very first bit of travel is fairly light but pressing further it stiffens up. feels like a hard spring to me. I have a 964 (911) and the throttle is very light on that, i presume the VW was just not designed like that?

well i guess you could grease up the springs & the cable and see what happens

Springs tend to get weaker not stiffer unless it has been replaced with a non-OEM one or shortend. Why not release the spring and operate the pedal by hand - i would think you could tell then whether it is the cable or the spring.
