Title: Timing problem
Post by: Xtrhardcore on 05 September 2012, 12:46
Doing the cam belt and water pump on me golf,

Before I've even touched anything the can looks a tooth out,

What would be the symptoms Of a tooth out? And should I put it back I line?

Cheers

It does idle a bit funny time times but no codes.
But funny idle I mean it jolts sometimes?

It was the cam shaft that kept rotating back but all sorted now, timing is spot on and rough idle is no longer! Banging!

the banging might be your rear bushes.

Was going to say, compensate by pulling cam pulley round a tooth with a spanner and it will jump back to TDC when tensioned.

Exactly what we did mate, pulled it forward an extra tooth so when it jumped back we were spot on
