Title: tt stuff
Post by: VeeDubGTI16v on 04 September 2012, 18:35
ok so i'm thinking of doing the tt front hub conversion for better handling, does it make a noticeable difference? i'm fully arb'ed up now with billy b4's and eibach springs and it could do with handling better still!

basically, is it worth the effort

it does make a difference and the adjustability is nice, but the TT upper and lower front strut braces make more of a difference imo

I'd have to disagree massively with that statement Topher.

Fitting the upper and lower braces stiffens things up, but doesn't actually change anything to deal with the mk4's terrible standard wishbones or uprights.

Fitting the TT wishbones and uprights, gives you more negative camber, more caster, more adjustability, a higher roll centre (which is desirable), and less bump steer issues.

It's a massive improvement to the way the car drives. far more than any strut brace could ever do.

What's adjustable on the tt setup?

still not a great deal to be honest!

There is much more camber adjustment in the TT setup, but the main thing is the additional gain in camber and caster that they give you.

oh ok, I assume on the balljoint?

the three threads for the ball joint have eccentric slots in the actual wishbone

dampers
hubs/uprights
wishbones
arb

do i have to use the tt rack or just rod ends?

Im sure I read somewhere on ukmkiv's there was a problem with changing the rack and ASR/ESP systems.

Yes it kicks in on some corners because car is not set for the less turns of the wheel.

You need to look into what way your going to run the ARB if goin with the list below you'll need drop links

its either make the mk4 fun or buy a new car lol. new car means even less bicycle money!

would rather not change the rack tbh, so is it just rod ends or the whole arm?

re the arb setup i believe you use the straight arm'ed one that goes under the driveshaft and the long links that attach to the tt dampers.

talking of driveshafts, use the golf ones?

i was talking to my local audi about this conversion and according to them its £150 for the lot?

would this be right?  :undecided:

I doubt that VERY much! haha.

You need the wishbones, hubs, track control arms and ends, drop links etc.....

I was quoted over £100 for each control arm from TPS, so it's definitely not £150 for the lot!
