Title: Hourly Charge rates!
Post by: Luke1981 on 03 September 2012, 16:05
My local garage charges £55 an hour which I think is reasonable.

Just phoned VW in Altrincham, Cheshire asking about a new part and was quoted £166 an hour labour on top of the part price! I new the stealers are expensive but £166 ph! Highway robbery!

Hang on that does not sound right are you sure it wasn't because the part was going to take two hours to fit cos then it seems about right?

Well my garage charge £40p/h inc vat. Are VAG specialists/enthusiasts and always enlighten you to possible hidden costs if any at all, they always ring too just to check. (so reassuring, as these days most garages just carry out the work theybdeem necessary and tell you after...thingys)

My local is £60 per hour. I'd rather spend all day struggling and sweating, while trying to enjoy my self, fixing my car than pay huge costs like that. I'll never use a garage unless I have to!

My house mate at uni, he paid £130 - which was the hourly rate - for half an hour.
This was a house visit though. At 2am.

She didn't look like a mechanic though. He doesn't even drive.

There are my local VW garage and I have had some work done over the years I have lived here on my two Golfs and Polo that I have owned and never been charged that rate. There is a lad who worked there who is actually pretty good for a dealership, really helpful.

Stay away from their after sales customer service team though, had a problem with my Polo 5 years ago which needed some work doing which fell under a recall , so I could get it for free, but they refused to even admit it was a recall. One email to head office though and I was allowed the work to be done for free...but the Altrincham branch refused to do it and I was sent to the one in Trafford
