Title: gone and done it ...!
Post by: 1.8t.jim on 02 September 2012, 21:55
took my TB off too clean it and dropped the allen key down the intercooler hose!! so its gone into the intercooler! i started it up and its fine, i just dont want the pressure of the turbo pick it up and send it straight in my inlet manifold and destroy the engine, anybody tell me how to get the intercooler out on my mk4 golf gti so i can get this allen key back!

mate tell me about it lol i didnt no wether laugh, cry or what and the best thing is my car is at my house and my trolley jack and axels are at my mums around the next street so got push the car around there cuz they have got a big garage with all my tools in lol i darent start it up just incase the turbo pressure does pick it up and send it into my engine, im sure it wont like cuz an allen key isnt the most aerodynamic thing and the pipe up to the throttle body is nearlly vertical with a few bends in just hope i can get it out can i get the intercooler open at the top without taking the front bumper off ?

Dude you've made my night, you're a leg! Plus which just to add comedic value to the post, I just told my missus about your troubles and her response was, " oh sh!t, it's not likely to come through the air vents and hit him in the face is it".......I couldn't be f**ked to respond. She's gone to bed now....thank f**k.

Won't that only work with gravity on your side? Genius if it does....

good place to find a magnet is off the back of a small speaker. Its like dropping your car keys down a drain .Im not pulling the drain up and climbing down there.  Ill use a long piece of string and a magnet .

Doesnt take long at all mate.
Torx bits in wheel arch, 5 torx bits by headlights and grill.
Remove bumper,
Take pancake pipe off and intercooler hose,
2 or 3 bolts holding the intercooler on job done.
Just give the cooler a shake upside down and it should drop out.

In future dont do the boy school stuff. Any hole fill it with a towel or rag.
Iv done it before and dropped a bolt in a gearbox inspection hole! that was the worse lesson learnt ever! I wont do it again

it's recycled oil vapour that's condensed
