Good Afternoon Gentlemen,
I have just got my MkVI TSI GTI back from the dealer after a brake fluid service.
When I bought the car, the dealer had converted the service schedule over to time and distance but the MFD was still showing the data for long life servicing. (i.e. 720 days to service instead of 365 days)
Whilst the car was at the dealers today I asked them to set up the MFD to reflect the time and distance service regime.
When I collected the car they told me that they were unable to set the MFD to represent the Time and distance servicing even though their diagnostic equipment showed that the car has been set up as requested. They have now contacted VW to for further advice.
Does anyone here have any experience of this fault or know how to correct it?
I look forward to hearing your thoughts on this.
Best Regards
Keith

It can be done mate cos I had the same issue with my Scirocco, I bet they forgot and couldn't be arsed to do it when ya collected the vehicle.

Just keep badgering them about it, and get some LED rears...
-
If they are looking into it they have not dismissed the problem but just keep on at them. Also changing to time and distance is better as long life service on 2.0 TSI is not really a good idea.

you can do it with vagcom

Thanks for the replies Gent's,
I was supposed to get a call from the service department today with an answer but as yet no call, I think I'll pop in there later as it's just around the corner.
Doc, is this just a digital output from a gateway that needs to be turned on to enable the MFD to change the counter over ? If this is the case and the byte is not switching or the MFD is not receiving the command then surely there is a faulty byte on one of the components?
Best Regards
Keith

I asked my dealer to do this as well and they said they couldn't so I did it myself.
As The Doc says you can do it in VCDS from the menu below

Good afternoon Gents,
I revisited the dealership yesterday and they had another go at changing the service timer to time and distance, but still no joy.
I now have to book the car back in so that they can compile a report to send to Germany for investigation, they said that they will require the car for a couple of days this time.
Mike thanks very much for posting that information, is VCDS the same system that the dealerships use?
The technician showed me what was happening, the ECU/Gateway is configured for time and distance when the computer is connected, but the MFD will not change to reflect this. To me it looks like a comm's problem between the gateway and the MFD?
Best Regards
Keith.

Good Afternoon,
My GTI has just come back from it's fourth visit to try and resolve this problem.
The "Master Technician" has now rectified the fault by manually entering the figures for the days and miles, and this seems to have cured the fault.
I don't know why this could not have been done from the out set though.
Anyway problem now solved. I hope this helps anyone else who comes across this fault with their car.
Thanks for looking in.
Best Regards
Keith.
