Post by: twotwofour on 30 August 2012, 07:03
It works brilliantly and I'm now back to black. How long does it last though

Not as long as bumper paint, it will fade in time

Surely bumper paint will just crack and peel off.

Should not do if done properly.  Same as having anything sprayed.  U would not expect ur paint off car to crack and peel

That Edd China guy off wheeler dealer uses it to restore plastic trim etc lol.  Its specially designed to go

onto bumper trim etc.  So far so good anyway.  We will see!

I take it you gave them a good going over with thinners first as for a car of that age it would of had plenty of back to black and other stuff used on it over the years wich contain silicone. And paint does not take well to even the tinyest bit of silicone.

Just remember that the heat gun can only be done a certain amount of times. The heat gun draws the oils

contained in the plastic to the surface, at some point there will be no oils left and ends up looking worse

than when you started.

That's why you use a trim protector, not a back to black type product but something that protects vinyl and rubber.

this should be in the detailing section... there is a black trim thread in the FAQ's which I have merged over the years so there are lots of different solutions and suggestions..

my view on this matter is that gtechniq C4 is the best product on the market for this problem.. its very expensive but well worth it.. no other product i have used or come across makes trim look this good.

I've only ever heard good things about that C4 stuff, I'll have to try some as mine is looking a bit passed it again
