Title: Bargain camera gear
Post by: DubFan on 29 August 2012, 09:31
Anyone remember Jacobs the photography shop?
They went bust and now all their stock is being auctioned off.

It's all online here: http://www.joneslanglasalle.co.uk/UnitedKingdom/EN-GB/Pages/Current-Sales.aspx (http://www.joneslanglasalle.co.uk/UnitedKingdom/EN-GB/Pages/Current-Sales.aspx)

Some of the auctions have started already, the auctions are in batches (Day 1, Day 2, Day 3 and Day 4) and each one has loads of cameras, lenses and more.
You do have to register with the site, but it could be very profitable.

Spotted lots of good stuff, Nikon D3S perhaps or a few Canon 5D or 1D ?
Also lots of Sigma lenses but also some compact system cameras.

Got my eye on a couple of things.

Yup, at least 10x 5D, several 1D, a few 60D, 50D, 40D, 1000D.

You need to register to bid, which then needs to be verified by a person in their office, but otherwise, just browse and bid.

It works out as dear as you allow it to, just make sure you allow 15% + VAT on your final bid price, as well as accounting for having no warrantee on what it is you're buying.  Needs approaching with a level head, for sure - I wouldn't bid any more than 50% of Fleabay completed auction prices.

Because I'm a pikey this is something I'm having a good look at doing.

If anyone else is considering it, note that payment appears to be only by bank transfer, or bankers draft and what you buy has to be collected as follows:

The premises will be open for collection of lots on 6TH, 7TH, 10TH, 11TH and 12TH OF SEPTEMBER 2012 from 9.00AM to 4.00PM. (Excluding Weekends).

Some idiot's already bid the ex-hire 70-200 F2.8L lens up to £600 which = £828 by the time you go to collect - better off buying from a shop at that rate!!

Corporate sell-off auctions are usually so big with so many items and large items, that they don't do postage because it would be too much effort.
A lot of stuff from my old workplace is being sold off by auction and it's the same deal.
