Morning everyone. So as the title says, check your oil level (and top up as appropriate)!
Checked mine the other day (usual monthly check) and realised it was on the min level. Bought a litre top up of choice and filled when the engine was cold. Took it out last night for a good run and the difference was incredible. She'd been running slightly rough, nothing too serious but enough for me to investigate and take it easy.
Moral of the story is, if you think something's not right, check your oil level! It could save your engine for starters but also let you enjoy your smooth running motor

So you went from max to min in a month :shocked: I think I would be looking for a leak if that happened to me.

My ED30 never needs a top up between servicing.

Nope, was aware that it could have done with topping up but due to other commitments, was put to the back of the queue.

Note to all GTI EA888 owners: A few engine failures of TSI2.0 out there that are suspected due to the chain jumping teeth due to the chain tensioner not having enough engine oil/pressure so check your oil level.

Have you measured your oil consumption at all snoop?
Many mk5's (Both TFSI and TDI) drink oil and from what I have heard the TSI engine fairs much better in the oil gobbling stakes.
But VW have covered themselves with the a 1L in 600 miles being within tolerance! :shocked:

Mine until I stopped using it at the end of march this year has not used any to speak of, first year over its 3000 miles it used non. Year 2 over 5300 mile only Feb it used 0.1 ltr. (that could have been start of my oil leak)
I don't use it in winter months but use a SEAT Leon 1.9 TDI which also has not used oil. Our SEAT ibiza 1.4 does use oil though.

Yes I have heard about 2.0 TSI engines using oil, however I have not had this issue with ED30, MK6 or ED35 and not needed to top up either between services. I did notice that when I got back from France that the oil level has dropped a little on the ED35 but top up not needed and this had done nearly 9000 miles. Had it serviced at 9500 miles. Now it's done 10000 and still on max.
Different story on the Polo GTI 6R the 1.4 TSI was burning 1 litre in 400 miles :shocked: Got rid of it as a result.
