Converting to the 1.8T now ive bought the engine and just wondering what people think I should do whilst I'm at it. Engine spacers so give more room for sump an r32 arb is a must! Anything else you boys think?
Toby has give me a few to do!
Think I need a short list of mods to do whilst converting so I don't have to go back and mess about!

All sounds good man! It's goin to have a bit of time spent on it! Keep the ideas coming haha I want to make sure i can get as much of the work out of the way whilst converting :)

get the turbo checked over by somone who knows about turbos? :) be a shame to bolt engine all in and find out turbo seals are leaking or somthing or its cracked
-
If your ever considering a relentless manifold now might be the time to do it. Badger5 take the head off to fit them. You could fit the manifold and turbo to the head then put it into the car in one go maybe which I'd imagine would be loads easier!
-
Probs check out some of the bushes in the arms? Either replace with OEM or maybe polybush...
-
If you have the bare engine out of the car this is what id do.
- Sump off change the pick up pipe
- Timing belt and water pump change
- Rip out all the breather PCV system fit a catch can
- Inlet manifold off and rocker cover and give them a clean/polish/paint.
- Gearbox off empty oil/refill with new and paint.
- Turbo off refit with good K03s if you have AGU engine code.
- Exhaust manifold off and port the inside for better flow.
And finally give the engine a really good service change the plugs, oil filter, oil, G12 coolant etc.
The above is alot of work but with engine out of the car your laughin and youl end up doing everything anyway. Imagine fitting everything and constantly having problems.

You'd shouldn't need to touch the engine for well over a year if you get it all out of the way now!

Do the engine mounts.
-
:smug:
Once the engine is in tip top condition as other people have said you need to check everything else,
- Suspension in good order, top mounts etc
- Mounts are all good, Polybush dogbone (costs less than £20)
- Brakes are cool, May need upgrading however I still run 280mm 1.6 brakes on my set up atm
- Wishbones bushes, drop links, ball joints and tie rods etc.
- I would buy a 3inch downpipe and decat. Youl need a good cat back exhaust then pref 2.5inch atleast for better flow.
Woowwww man the list goes on and on but these things take time. Look after the engine first then worry about little things after
Once/whilst this is all done you can get mods like fmic, panel filter, forge 007p, forge actuator, turbo intake pipe and solid flywheel conversion. Once remapped you have done everything in one go and youl love it.
-
Port and polish the exhaust manifold and check for cracks ,
Hybrid sump too , secondary air pump blank too ,
-
Definitely do the cambelt and pick up pipe. Id change the clutch and flywheel to g60/vr6. Its about £230 for the kit. Once the engines in a garage would charge near enough that in labour
PCV and SAI stuff is easy with the engine in place anyway.
-
So how big is your budget for this engine change again?

yeah man poly bushing the lot!

Yeah man this is all on the cards, when the engine goes in i want it to be running sweet as! its got a KO3s turbo on it!
This is going to cost me an arm and a leg!

haha by the looks of it i am going to be skint at the end of this haha!

Which engine are you using? AGU, AUM, ARZ or AUQ?
-
AUM mate

AUM mate

Im not clued up on AUM's but im sure you can remove alot of the sh!tty sensors on these too.
I love working on AGU's they soo bloody simple its crazy.
Makesure the coil packs have been replaced if they came under the recall, as far as im aware they were sh!te.
