85 bhp

85 bhp
or 100bhp per tonne, which is none too shabby actually.
Or 65bhp per litre, vs the VR6 at a huge 67bhp per litre.
But the A-series turbo was based on an engine from the 50s.
I doubt there's much on this forum that'd keep up with the Maestro Turbo, with a Tomcat engine, either.
Although neither would last long, left out in the rain.

Love the maestro. Really really spanking motor. Imagine that bad boy in black with White wheels and a big bottle of nos.

A friend of mine had a Metro turbo when we were young uns. They dont fare too well in a front end impact I can tell you! He was racing against someone, came over the crest of a small hill and lost it on the descent. Ploughed staight into a parked MR2 parked on the other side of the road and had to be cut out. Still has problems with his legs now!

Good find.
I can remember these cars when they were fairly new (worked in the motor trade at the time). Shocking build quality in the days where VW built their reputation that they still trade on now despite VWs being nothing special anymore.
The metal on the roof of a Maestro was about half a mm thick!! Touch it and it would bend big time!!
The Metro Turbos were insane fun, you could just blast everywhere in them at the same speed as they weren't all that fast but you hardly had to lift off at all when you went round a corner.

ace cars!
you dont need massive amount of BHP to have fun.
as already said its all about power to weight ratio.
-
maestro with 250bhp tomcat engine would be mental to drive!

My dad had a mg montego then a maestro, both quick, but the montego was actually quicker, sadly neither were turbined but wish we had them somewhere now.. :(
