How do all fellow gti joes,
Anyways managed to finally get engine cover off, and at front of engine under the inlet manifold there is a hose that connect directly under the manifold then runs off to the right and down, in a sort of elongated s shape.
Well I think after a full searching I have discovered its either a vacuum pipe or a breather pipe, going with the later. Can find any info on part number so looks like a trip to the scrappy to get the same hose.
Oohhh it's a mk4 gti 1.8t 220bhp 1999.
Now my question can I fit a catchment with a modded hose here or will it go elsewhere, reason I ask is that where the split is there seems to be some oil.
Also now I have only just bought my gti and this is my first turbo car,, it's suppose to have the following:
Blow off valve
Inter cooler
It's got a carbon fibre filter thingy on the right of engine
Drives like a dream but seems very light on the steering
It's running at 127000 miles so is there anything I should be checking, any known faults etc.
Before this I had a golf 1.6se and that was top car except for the sensor into the gearbox kept making car cut out so got rid.
Looking forward to hopefully having this little baby for a few years so would like any help or tips on tlc, and also what additional modding can you recommend.

what is the engine code? catch cans seem the way to go as it gets rid of any oil pi**ing everywhere as well as all the deletes and bypasses (look at my sig), my steering seems a bit heavy but its passed all MOTS etc so could be that the last owner retro fitted some goodies to it and had it mapped for you.

you sure it has 220bhp :undecided:

i bet its more like 180-200bhp unless its got a k03s :)

Hi apparently it's an agu and it's got the k03s.
Right sorted the hose it was a breather pipe. Now got a problem with the coolant temp sensor, so I'm replacing this and the sensor housing, is the thermostat attached or anywhere near this because I'm going to change that as well.
Im looking to change all the hoses as well but I ain't got a clue which ones to buy - looking on fleabay at the silicone ones but which do I get, next job will be replacing the radiator brackets and fitting angel eyes so front bumper will have to come off so going to change all my vacuum pipes etc when the bumpers off.
Also I have a induction kit attached to my turbo, can I attach one of these to my inlet manifold and if so which one is best.

a guide to replace your thermostat  an dont try fit anything to your inlet

Cheers Barry, I thought the thermostat was near the coolant temp sensor housing.
Point taken about intake, bit of a question about my filter on turbo side- the paper cone is at front tucked in behind my bumper, but pretty low to floor, I have noticed when it is wet that the car judders abit, could this be that the paper is getting wet and the turbo is struggling to pull air through.
