Title: Orlando - Retaurant Recommendations Required Please!
Post by: MrBounce on 25 August 2012, 17:53
We're off to Orlando (International Drive area) next year and as we both enjoy our food (and have been there before!!) we're thinking already about which restaurants we'd like to visit.

I don't get on with Thai food and Mrs B isn't overkeen on having a Chinese but other than than we're open to suggestions and recommendations. We'd like to visit a Steakhouse (the one we went to last time - Cattlemans - has gone), a decent Mexican and at least one half decent seafood place. Nothing too expensive ($30-40 pp plus drinks is the max we'd want to go to). Ideally the I-drive area is fine as I don't want to have to drive everywhere for food.

These are a couple on our "potentials" list:

http://www.maggianos.com/EN/Pointe-Orlando_Orlando_FL/Pages/LocationLanding.aspx - this place is amazing!

Am looking for personal recommendations please

Very nice restaurant which is located at the Pointe Orlando Shopping Centre. Do a really nice slow roasting chicken and fall of the bone ribs.

Bahama Breeze is really nice, it's a Carribbean type place but they do all sorts, lovely chicken and sweet potato mash dish! there's one on international drive and one on the Bronson memorial highway, i can't remember which one we went to though!

Outback steakhouse is really good too, mahoosive steaks!

Been to Florida twice now and absolutely love it and will be going back!

We went there on the last night of our Honeymoon. Massive portions; the Key Lime Pie had a dollop of cream the size of my wife's fist...

That is what I love about America, give you massive portions and of course free refills all night.

We went out the other week and it cost us £15 for our drinks alone and they were only Pepsi too.

Some of the restaurants in Downtown Disney are good assuming you're heading to the parks.
In International Drive there are a few places worth checking out but the place looks a bit run down now compared to when it was at its peak a good few years ago.
Denny's Diner is towards the top of International Drive and is cheap with big portions, got to be worth a visit just for the American Diner experience. Ponderosa is my favourite of the 'normal' diners; there are two in International Drive (or there were as the last few years I've stayed in Disney hotels and haven't been over to Int Drive), one about half way up Int Drive and one nearer the bottom end. Masses of choice and you nearly always fill yourself up from the buffet bar long before your main course (entree) gets to you!
Also about half way up International Drive there is a big Maccy D's which is well worth a visit as it doesn't just do the normal burgers and crap but has a separate counter that does all sorts of food so if you visit with a group of people they cater for everything with some excellent desserts and it's fairly cheap. Plus if there's kids in your group they have a massive play area and mini amusement arcade upstairs.

being a petrol head you need to go to old town fri or sat nites, (pizza hut is there too) Applebees is the best in my book,  there is one on 192 just off 27 by wal mart and another one along i27, half way between 192 and i4.
t-rex was nice at downtown disney but had to wait about an hour for a table. There is a tgi fridays on the 192 thats good too

Here's my applebees favourite, the trio (http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu310/bodga/IMG_0869.jpg)

Tony Roma's is also one of my favourites. Love the ribs there!

Plus every time I have been there has always been no end of hot waitresses

Chili's was my favourite when we were there a couple of months ago!

http://www.chilis.com/EN/Pages/home.aspx

$40 got two meals, drinks (Free refill most places, if not all) dessert and the tip!

Try and avoid the really, really cheap places. Thee is a reason they are soo cheap! We went to an all you can eat buffet of pizza for $5 each. Wasn't great, but was certainly and experience.. Was two black girls or at least i think they were girls talking about kicking the sh!t out of all sorts of people..

It's also very safe, even if you think you might get shot, you won't. I was walking to McDonalds for me and the missus at about 11pm on my own. A group of slow walking girls up front which i caught up with and i went to walk past them a "Gangsta" car pulls up with a load of scary looking men, blacked out windows. They were shouting at the girls, all i remember hearing was one articulate young lady shout "Eww ya grille is nasty.." Turns out he had silver teeth.. In the end he let me cross and i got my food
