here's more info.

http://uk-mkivs.net/forums/t/167146.aspx

My car doesn't have a multi function display, can I fit a set of clock with the display?

"Yes you can but you will need a new wiper stalk (4B0 953 503 H) with the computer controls on it and then it will need wiring into the green multi plug connector on the rear of the rear of the clocks. Also if you currently don't have the outside temperature probe that is located in the bumper you will need to install one and wire it back to the green connector (pin 26) for the cluster to display the outside temperature."

the clocks will need coding to your ECU/keys as the immobiliser needs syncing. This is done through VAG COM. You will also need to extract the SKC from possibly both clusters and the mileage will need adjusting. This is done with VAG TACHO. You'll also need to fit some new wires from the wiper stalk to the cluster multi plug and also a wire from the multi plug to the bumper for the outside temp sensor.

Clocks are easy to pull out and change over, wiring is a bit fiddly and wiper stalk is a PITA as you've got to take the steering wheel and other bits off to get to it. Coding the clocks/keys is a bit tricky first time you do it but easy enough once you know your way round it all

probably only beer tokens for someone who has the stuff on their computer. I'm assuming yours is immo2 as you don't have a display, what year is your car?

immo2 then, immo3 was on the later cars. It's actually an advantage as you can code in ANY clocks to your car with the display

no, nothing would work as the keys wouldn't be coded to the clocks meaning the immobiliser would kick in

you need repair wires to make your own wiring for the stalk (part numbers are in the link)

Shopping list for the scrapyard will be - stalk, clocks and outside temp sensor/plug and a bit of wire from passenger side bumper grille

your a person of knowlage lol do you know anything about the keys as i only have a manual key and my last golf had remote locking on the fob i would of thought all golfs would have remote central locking?

I don't have standard remote central locking either mate, only on my aftermarket alarm. It was only an option on early cars. Might be worth fitting an aftermarket central locking kit as it will be no doubt easier

they both look good. I would rule out being able to use the key supplied to start the car even if you have it cut properly as I don't think it will have the immobiliser transponder in there, but you could always try to bodge one in there though

I'd like to have a flick key for mine that would work the aftermarket alarm but I don't think it's possible

i think you could put it in the casing somewere i think i going to go for one of them, how much do you think it will cost to have they key cut, i may need further advice with the wiring when i get the kit lol

key shouldn't cost much, prob around a tenner. Yeah the transponder is just the glass case thing inside, just a bit delicate really

Yeah fire away mate, if I can help I will

i havnt had much reply to my topic, you know people put subs in the left hand side in the boot mdf front with fibreglass rear, im not a lover of fibre glass so i was wondering what you think of i put carpet mdf with one of those subs what require a box passive subs whatever they are called, so when i get my remote kit would i need to reprogram the key and can that be done my myself
