Post by: Chambo on 24 August 2012, 14:34
Hi fellas I've got the light on on the dash and was wondering how difficult it may be to diagnose the cause and fix, sensor? Have also been told that low pads could bring the light on in certain cars is this true? I have a mk 4 gt tdi by the way W plate. Thanks In advance, chambo

Having the same trouble with my MK4 , ABS light is on and off , when it is off the abs kicks in when I slow down , but when the light is on , I have no trouble with the abs.

I want it fixed, but would ideally like it diagnosed like you first , before putting in a garage or fixing it myself.

really needs to be plugged in to some sort of diagnostic equipment, there are several things that can permanently illuminate the ABS dash lamp.

Stu yours sounds like it will be a wheel speed sensor on the way out. Again, on board diagnostics will tell you which one needs to be replaced.

Cheers mate. Is a pain in the ass, makes a right noise when breaking.

Am trying to find someone round this way with a vagcom, but no luck yet.

My ABS light was on when I bought my car recently. Used a fault code reader to check which corner it was and the ABS sensor cost me £16 from Euro Car Parts and took me an hour to change Saturday morning. Its an easy job and one which I had never done. The hardest part was removing the old sensor which was welded to the car but came out in 3 pieces   Put a bit of grease around it and put the new one in and the light went out by itself. Worth doing really just for piece of mind and cheap to do as well
