I've got a 95 2.0 8v and its starting to really hesitate and cut out on low revs and recently the rev counter has started jumping all over the place and for the life of me i cant find the fault.
I've done all the usual stuff like clean throttle body, new plugs, leads, dizzy cap, coil, maf, fuel filter etc but to no avail.I've just started a new job so really need this car so if someone can help i would be very grateful.

Also crank sensor

replacing the ICV solved this for me.
dont get a cheap pattern part though i made that mistake and it made things worse. get yourself a bosche one (if thats what the original one is)

replacing 30 relay stopped the rev counter jumping but it still stalls and really kangaroos on low revs.

Like Madmanmart said, Crank Sensor.

well guys replaced the crank sensor but car still doing the same thing this is really starting to anoy me now.car idles fine and it revs great but when i drive it just kangaroos on low revs then its not too bad after 2500 rpm but the engine is still hesitating.Ive also noticed the fuel pump doesnt seem to prime as long as my brothers golf gti.
Anymore ideas?

when you start it does it rev realy high? Try getting the throttle body reset from vag com. Unless you havent clean the throttle body up properly
