Title: noise when starting car
Post by: vw_golf_nutter on 23 August 2012, 12:58
hi guys,
today my mk3 cabrio has decided its going to make me overly paranoid with yet another rattly noise!
its always when im about to go on a long journey too! im doing a 700 mile round journey in 2 weeks!

anyway, when you turn the key it starts but it has a tinny rattle to it that only lasts a second, its almost like the starter motor over-running but it sounds a bit more higher pitched than that.
hard to explain but not sure what it could be.
its obviously connected to starting the car so its gotta be something which comes to life on turning the ignition... it could be connected to an intermittant rattly noise whilst the car is running but i thought this was the heat shield, making me think maybe im wrong now?!

any ideas?

I will second a faulty starter,i know of so many vw,s that do it. Mine did it from when i bought the car, after cranking it would make a ridiculously loud screech that would make people jump lol,it lasted a good twelve months before it packed up.My mates bora does it and another mates mk2 does it also.
