Title: drunk driver hit me
Post by: melted on 22 August 2012, 01:39
hey, only joined this forum 2 days ago but my Golf was hit by a drunk driver earlier tonight while i was sitting at the lights with my mum, girlfriend and 16 month old daughter in the car   I heard him coming cause car was bouncing off limiter cause he had his foot flat on accelerator and didn't hit the brakes at all. Turned round and seen him just a split second before he hit us. Apparently he was 6 times the drink drive limit!!!!!!!  Thankfully no one was too badly hurt just sore necks and heads. I already had a broken collar bone from a motorbike accident 3 weeks ago so that has got a bit worse I think. Never been so angry in my whole life

hell yeah, I will be bankrupting him!! Can't believe someone would get into a car that drunk. If he hadn't hit us he would have hit and maybe killed someone. Haven't slept all night from neck pain and also still too annoyed about the whole thing to sleep

Get yourself and the family up to A&E mate. I had a moral arguement when someone went into me a couple of months ago, but went to the hospital because I was genuinely in pain. Turns out I've got two chipped vertebrae, and an acute fracture of one. I'd have been fuming too mate, with a young un' in the car, it doesn't bear thinking about what could have happened if he'd have been going faster. Glad your all ok though bar the neck injuries.

OMFG!!!!.. First off, sooooo glad you are all OK.  With who you had in the car at the time I would have struggled not to beat the living daylights out of him!...

Gutted about that car too, you've not had it long.

I hope that tw@t get's what he deserves and I hope you are well compensated!

Glad your ok, how come you didnt kill him?

Lucky he stayed about, I was hit twice 6 months apart (to the day), both idiots driving out of the pub! both with my son in the car, both fled the scene before the police got there, neither got done for drink driving either.....

Thanks for all the sympathy and good wishs people, much appreciated. Still so angry about what happened. As for killing him I was going to. As soon as it happened I jumped outta the car and started shouting and screaming at him but there was a whole crowd of people and then I heard my daughter crying so all my attention and focus went on her. Would love to do serious damage to him but the pathetic excuse of a man he was just isn't worth wasting the energy on.

Good man....

To be honest, you know how the law is, you could kick is head in and end up in more trouble than him!

At least you had a tow bar fitted so his car will be totally shagged and he'll not get paid by the insurance as he was DUI...

Not much of a consolation....

Correct me if I'm wrong, but won't his insurance be void as he was driving under the influence, so subsequently, won't pay out for the OP either?

As much as I would have loved to grab the wheel brace out of the car and start modifying his face, it would not have done me or my family any favours. I think once the money comes through, although it will take a while, I may buy another Golf cause during the brief stint that I owned it I really enjoyed it. Here is another pic of the damage

Don't think this is true... If the OP's fully comp it won't matter...

I was only TPFT   The person dealing with the claim said that it could cause a problem that he was drunk but because the car was insured they are still liable to some extent and any injury claim will pay out. To be honest I probably won't get much back for the car cause they'll probably value it at something daft like £400   So pissed off but I suppose it could have been worse. Can't quite believe I've been in a motorbike accident and car accident within 4 weeks. Like you know you are having a bad month when you get brought into hospital by ambulance on a stretcher and neck brace and the nurse says "do i recognise you? You were in for a motorbike accident 3 weeks ago weren't you?"

this is a rare case when I would actually recommend a no win no fee solicitor to sue him for personal injury.

Post by: SoundillusioN on 22 August 2012, 16:22
How the feck is that fair, it shouldn't matter what state he was in, if he's insured you should be payed and then his insurer should screw him!  Grrrrrrrrr

this is a rare case when I would actually recommend a no win no fee solicitor to sue him for personal injury.

And yes, regardless of what you get for the car, sue the feck out of him, damages, stress, shock, whiplash, distress, whatever you can squeeze out it...

Sorry, but I hate drink drivers!

Glad you're all okay, minus a few aches & pains! Especially with your little girl in the car!

Some people are just d*cks, they don't think about the consequences

As said, surely you could get him for personal injury if the insurers wont pay up.

Looks like police might have made a balls up of the report  On the crime number reference they gave me its dated 21/9/12  must have been hit that hard that I time travelled . My name was spelt wrong and the reg of my car was wrong. Also worried they may have recorded me as the driver even though I was passenger because they gave me a producer for license and insurance yet my mum who was driving was not asked for license. Must have got some balloon on work experience or something for flip sake   What sort of speed would you guess he was doing? It was a 206 1.4 I think and he was on the limiter of what ever gear he was in. We were stationary and travelled about 8 feet into the car in front of us. Also taking into account tow bar on my car may have took some of the impact.

Its only metal glad the family are ok

Insurance wise, isnt there some kind of organisation/bureau that pays out then goes directly to the guilty party for the sum payed out + their cut?

I got hit by an uninsured car a few years ago and i got payed out (not by a car insurance company) and they went to him with the lube

Hopefully you'll be back on here in the dub rides section with your mk3 1.8t

After being in a similar accident, the straight collision (full width of your rear took the hit) and the extent of the damage, I'm guessing at point of contact he would have been doing 30-35 mph.....  :undecided:

Forget going to the insurance.

Go to a specialist solicitor! Speaking to insurers is a waste of time.

Drunk f**kwit!

Dare I say it, I probably would have broke the guys face had I have been in your shoes!

I hope the guy does a stretch, but I fear it will simply be yet another meagre 12 month ban and a obsolete fine!

Feel for you buddy....

Glad your okay as well as your family, The drunk driver should be locked up and the keys thrown away as it could have been alot worse.

P.S, bottom of the rear passenger light, the paint works looks chiiped and chunks missing, it that body filler?
