Title: Knocking noise from front when pulling away
Post by: Eddbmxdude on 19 August 2012, 22:09
Hi everyone,

Over the last few weeks my golf has had a knocking sound coming from the front drivers side. It clunks when I pull away and sometimes when I accelerate after changing up a gear. It doesn't do it under braking.

I originally thought it was the drivers side wishbone bush, so I put an entire new bottom arm on but the noise was still there.
Its coming from the rear engine mount area so I whipped that off this evening to have a look but the mount seems fine to me. Would it be obvious if it needed replacing? I also took the front engine mount off and that seems ok as well. The rubber is a little soft on the front one, but not majorly so. Should I just replace them anyway?

I also had a look around to see where else it could be coming from. Couldn't see anything obvious. Any ideas as to what it might be?

Cheers,
Edd

I'd say front engine mount.

Grrr, nothing on this car is bloody easy!

Bought the CV boot that was listed for my car, got the driveshaft and the old boot off and the metal flange on the new boot is too small to fit over the cv joint!

I've had loads of problems with parts not fitting, even though they are listed for my reg number. Had a nightmare getting the right pads and discs too.
