I know it's "only" a driver but bear with me on this!I recently bought a mk2 Driver 1.6. Drove it home yesterday without so much as problem only to find that when I went to move the car today, I couldn't find neutral!
I have disconnected the linkages to discount those and I was able to select different different gears. When I had neutral selected, I noticed that the engine would turn gently when rocking the car back and fourth and when I had selected a gear, the engine would brake the car when rocking it back and fourth. I have a feeling the clutch is dragging but I am able to drive the car by giving it a few revs and releasing the clutch pedal slowly. I felt like it was in fourth or fifth gear. If I started the car with the clutch pedal released, the car would jump and stall indicating it was in gear. Every time I tried to select a gear and pull away, the car felt as if it was chocked and wouldn't move regardless of revs. In neutral it would creep when I slowly released the clutch.
Car is on 125k, unknown mileage on clutch and like I said it drove beautifully yesterday.
I'm confused! Please help!

Are you able to select neutral just by manouvering lever on gearbox? It shouldnt be dragging in neutral sounds more like a selector problem

I can't no, I decided to get the car trailored to it's new home where I will strip it all out ready for a new heart with a bit more power. Anybody after a healthy 125k 1.6 Carb'd driver engine? Could be yours in a few weeks time!!
