My top crankcase breather pipe has split on me, so I bought a replacment silicon one from ebay. Thats all good, but as I came to fit it I noticed the pipe beneath it that it should attatch to is well and truly past it's best. An inch long split and the whole thing is caked in crud. I have no idea what part this hose is or where to order a replacement.
I guess this split might cause the issue I have with a very strong smell of petrol when I'm idling and waiting at lights. Not fresh petrol, but not toally burnt. If the PCV system is leaking surely unburnt gasses will escape!
On an unrelated note, theres something on the front right that clangs/rattles as I go over uneven roads. I cant see anything, but I'm a novice with cars tbh.
Thanks for any help!!

is part number 2 the one you're on about?
if so, http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-GOLF-BORA-MK4-LEON-1-8T-20VT-PCV-LOWER-BREATHER-PIPE-/160832256060?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item257259783c

take it out and fit a catch can, less hassle in the future
-
I've just replaced the same Y pipe and found out the other connecting pipe is split so I'm going to be buying the pipe from the link.
Catch can is much too advanced of a mod for me lol.

have a look on the maintenance i've got all the kit for it, if you have a VAG specialist they would charge an hour tops and fit a good piece of kit, and i'll have a forge y pipe and lower crank case breather to sell soon

How much you after for the lot mate please??

I assume the one on the link replaces the T junction on the diagram? And is instead just a one piece pipe that does the job of both?
I'm not up to doing a catch can or anything - really just learning about the car at the moment. How hard will this pipe be to fit? I've had a look and theres a lot of crap in the way!

That's the thing really; if you have to remove all the crap to get out at it, why go to the hassle of then replacing it?
A catch can will simplify everything under the bonnet and give you almost maintenance free motoring. Will work out more cost effective in the long run as those tiny little pipes cost a fortune!!

still stuck between the two, my forge Y pipe is fitted but depending on the map i recon i'll be keeping the can now as R-Tech advise to fit one as its alot cleaner and no greasy air is recirculated about the engine, the can i have hasnt been used etc and would of wanted to make back what i paid so you might as well by a new one from Ebay as theyre not that expensive, you'd need about 1mtr of 19mmID silicone pipe half a meter of 16mmID silicone pipe, 20mm T connection, x2 16mm 90degree connectors and perhaps a new pipe from that diagram above part 5 or 22 but not sure :undecided: , jupilee or cable ties
you'd be looking at about £40 the lot and theres a guide to fit too.

That's brilliant that mate fantastic. I'll get searching through eBay now for the pipe work I need.
You say I might need a new pipe no 5 or 22??
I have already replaced pipe 5 and the reason for the catch can is because 22 is also split.
Does the can mod not replace the pipe no 22 then no???as this was in theory my hole idea of the can lol.

My lower breather pipe has arrived, but seeing how it replaces both part 2 and 11, I'm now very confused. Part 11, the T junction houses the PCV valve. This hose doesn't have a valve fitted in it? So whats going on with my PCV valve?is it fitted the the pipe's T junction. The part that leads to pipe number 4?
Is the PCV valve part no. 8?
Damn, this is confusing.

P.S. this is from another post, alot better and alot cheaper in the long run, get rid of your PCV syste, N249 and SAI - BANG - no problems with your vacuum system, no more worries of under boosting
