ive just bought another mk4 1.8t AGU R32 rep... the problem im having is i noticed the MAF was disconnected and it also has a wire coming out going to earth (this looks like someone has done this) so i plugged it back in and when plugged in the car wont rev over 3.5k it just starts spluttering and back fireing... then disconnect it and it drives fine again...
now what i need to know is what would cause this? is it faulty MAF?
also why did someone earth it out? whys the EML not lighting up when the MAF plug is disconnected?
if anyone can shed some light i would be most greatfull...
-
It must be mapped mate , i had a subaru that had the maf mapped out
-
MAF has been disconnected to sell it without it running rough. AGU has no EML or check engine light on the dash
-
so what do you reckon wazzer... new maf?
-
Yes new maf.
-
take a picture of this wire ? saw bodge of the year the other day at work.. mk5 golf tdi and a backstreet garage had put a constant live from the battery to the airmass :/ wires everywhere and for some funny reason engine light was still on......
-
Yes mate new MAF. Get rid of that wire too

Your ignition amp needs a heat sink put back on it. That wire looks a mess.
-
some people shouldnt be allowed a car.....that is shocking!
-
I would hazard a guess that it to stop a fault code popping up...
A lot of hassle for just that though!
-
Well theres 2 signal wires to ECU, a live and a earth....so depends which PIN it goes to.
proper bodge either way lol
-
strip it back and show us what wire it goes to mate, this is intriguing lol

Not yet mate, still waiting for it to arrive
-
i will strip it back at work tomorrow and add a pic... if i disconnect the wire added which goes to earth then start the car it fire's then die's... the only way to get the car to drive is to have the maf unplugged with this wire going to earth... if i plug it in it will splutter and back fire when i drive over 3.5k... got to get this sorted asap... f*cking cowboy bodgers i hate them with a passion

That is strange then mate...

How does it peform in its bodged state? Mine ran the same, maf plugged in it would turn over but not run, unplug maf and ran but used loads of fuel and performed like a 1.4, turned out it was a boost hose had blown off, didnt discover this till after I had fitted a new maf.

sounds just like mine buddy, also noticed the DV is a bit quieter aswell... may have to check all boost pipes... just out of curiosity what pipe was off on yours?

The main one straight off the turbo, would be worth checking before buying a new maf.
