Hi, i am having trouble with the head unit in my mk1 golf gti! i have put in a jvc camilion head unit which i had in my last car, every time i turn it up to about 23 on a cd and about 24 on the radio it turns its self off and then comes on and then cuts out and this continues until you trun it down, now it seems to be getting worse, some times even level 19 on the radio will cut it out! its doing my head in, it worked fine in my last car! i have some jvc 6 by 9 s in the back and the standard poo speakers in the front! any ideas?? cheers rob

its the wires at the back of the sterio. happend with my sony once.
go to halfords and buy new cable. then refund your sh!tty cable.
sorted

Either you are not getting enough current from the power wire, or the head unit is cutting out due to overheating or over current in the amp output stage. beef up the power supply wire. Check all speakers are 4ohm impedance, and maybe beef up the wiring on the 6x9s
-
i changed the wire to the 6 be 9's, its well chunky! so you think it could be the power wire?

which wires do you mean? the speaker cable i use is well chunky stuff, do you mean the power and earth like the other guy says?
-
the whole wire harness at the back mate.
comon you know yu want to
-
Beef up the power wire at least.
-
it seems beefy enough to be honest, could it be the battery? :undecided:
-
comon funky! switch it with a halfords one. go on you know you want to
-
ok, ok! i will see what i can get hold of!
-
sorted it! had to run a new power from the battery and put in a new earth! works fine now and the sound is far far better! cheers all!
-
you still have to do the halfords scam for me. comon!

Please make sure that you have a fuse somewhere in your new live feed. You can buy an inline fuse holder.
-
cheers for that but i have put one near the battery already!

if i was you i would take it into a shop and have it looked at befor you blow it up all together dude!
-
im having the same trouble same car same head unit wot wites did u change and wre did u erth if thanx ian

You can beef up the power wire all you want, but if the earth is not sufficient, you'll still have the same fault.
Check your earth connection, or better still, run a direct earth straight to chassis. Obviously the main feed could be the cause, but people often overlook the earth - it's just as important.
-
indeed heyho, the earth is essentialy a drainhole, if its blocked ( even slightly will matter) or cut off hows the power getting round the rest of the circuit?! very important!
