I'm looking at buying a new bike. I've got a mountain bike, which is probably around 5 years old now and with the riding I'm doing I would much prefer a racing bike, or hybrid?
I dont mind buying 2nd hand, want to spend £200 - max £300. Obviously I know you get what you pay for, what would you say is a good bike in that price bracket? I'm seeing brands such as "viking" and "vitesse", I'm assuming these are the very basic range of racing/road bikes?
My Dad's got a new Chris Boardman and its the dog's danglies!
Cheers, Nick

Fixed gear seem to be all the rage at the moment, some very nice retro stuff about

Up your budget to around £400, depends on what riding your doing but a hybrid is a good all round choice, I use a s/h Boardman comp as the work bike and it is spot on.
Racing bikes tend to be a lot more focused and have a lot less comfort.
I have at the moment the Boardman, an On one Pompino single speed plus the Dawes tourer, it a nice mix for the miles I do (around 3500 a year)

My mate has just bought a fixed gear, which is great for his commute, but not so good for the hills around here!

Do you want one that clamps round the frame, or bolts directly to it, and what make? I may have one

I've got an old Sachs Huret one that clamps round the frame, twin levers for a 10 speed, but one side has a broken lever, this can be removed by undoing the nut
PM me your address, and I'll stick it in the post
