Ok guys I'm after a bit of help I had a pipe missing the other day and it was to do with the sia system so I bogged it up untill tomorrow when I get a replacement anyway since doing that the car has a problem when you start it from cold it starts fine then if you turn off up the road it doesn't want to start and will take ages to kick over now since repairing that pipe the engine very rarely gets upto 90 unless I sit in traffic could that be my problem with starting cheers for any help

The SAI (Secondary Air Intake) just warms the cat when you start the car from cold, it makes the horrendous hoover sound
You could always delete it (rip it out and add a resistor in its place  ) VW wanted something like £20 per section, 3 sections from memory resistors were about £2 each and 20 minutes to rip the SAI and pipework out
You also need to either replace the bottom half of the airbox with one that doesnt have the hole for the SAI to fit into or throw a cone filter on the end of the MAF
Any questions let me know

Cheers mate but would that make it hard to start mate and make it run cold I've just took it for a drive and the temp gauge hardly moved off the solid white lines all the way down where I was going that was about ten mile away so I'm stumped as its only done it since I replaced the pipe mate

Cheers mate but I didn't have the temp prob before I fixed the pipe and don't know if it's got anything to do with it or not

check the plug on temp sensor see if its ok

+1 on checking the temp sensor, the SAI tubes do run very close to it so you may have knocked it
the temp sender is on the right of the engine in the pipe that comes off the rad
